What a tumultuous week it’s been for Boise State. After firing their offensive coordinator following a debacle of an offensive performance in Week 4, longtime starting quarterback and heart-and-soul of their team Hank Bachmeier hit the transfer portal. However, all is not lost for the Boise State Broncos as the Taylen Green era officially begins.
Prediction for San Diego State vs. Boise State
And for Taylen Green’s era to begin against San Diego State in 2022 of all years may be a blessing in plain sight. San Diego State’s pass defense has been a shell of what it once was, or even what it was considered to be preseason. The Aztecs are allowing the 96th-most yards per game and a ridiculous 12 yards per completed pass. That bodes well for a young quarterback making his first start after seeing extended action for the first time just earlier this season.
Green can be a dominant athlete with the ball in his hands, as evidenced from his 100-yard performance in relief of Bachmeier against Oregon State in Week 1. How he uses his eyes and directs the offense on scrambles or designed runs will be another story now that the offense is his. Also, what will this new offense look like under Dirk Koetter? Will this be a heavy run, pro-style team with George Holani handling the majority of the business or will it be RPO-heavy with the 6’6″, 220-pound Green sharing the load?
[bet-promo id=”174860″ ]Either way you look at it, it spells disaster for SDSU who have struggled to stop anyone this year. And even worse, they’ve struggled to put up any points on the board themselves. Against just Idaho State have the Aztecs scored more than 20 points this season, looking incredibly inept and slow at times. Boise State’s defensive prowess, led by safety JL Skinner, is predicated on getting the ball back for their offense to continue to dictate the game. This has the makings of a defensive slugfest while the offense figures out what they’re doing under Green and Koetter.
Don’t be alarmed if the scripted offense doesn’t feature Green much at all. Let the flow of the game hit and hopefully, Koetter realizes he has an incredible athlete at his disposal at quarterback. Green could be special, and we’ll have to wait and see. Still, from what we saw against Oregon State, he has the goods to deliver a home win for the Broncos.
Prediction: Boise State 23, San Diego State 10

For all the talk about inept offenses and unknown game plans, the only players worth potentially playing in this one are on Boise State. In fact, it’s Boise State’s backfield to be exact. George Holani can be reliable if used properly while Green is the play simply based on upside and athletic ability.
Going further down the list, and when looking at his rapport with the pass catchers when he was in against Oregon State, Green favored Stefan Cobbs over Latrell Caples. Cobbs comes in with a cheaper value in DFS leagues and should be considered a late flier if you need to save cap space.
Otherwise, you already know by now to stay away from SDSU players, especially against a vaunted Boise State secondary that can knock the ball loose or intercept seemingly any pass. Look to the backfield and fill your roster with hope and promise as maybe you find a gem in the rough.
Grab Green at a small value before he potentially is due for an uptick in price tag next week.
