It’s always difficult to properly value the quarterback position in fantasy football for trading purposes. Seven weeks into the season, values have shifted dramatically. Unraveling all that we saw in Week 7 and translating it into Week 8 QB trade targets is where fantasy managers can differentiate themselves.
To help you get your head around it all, here are our thoughts on some QBs to buy low or sell high entering Week 8.

Which QBs Should You Trade for in Fantasy Football?
Katz’s Other Week 8 Trade Targets: WR | RB | TE
Jared Goff, Detroit Lions
Unfortunately, despite Jared Goff actually being two different players, the fantasy platforms require you to roster both. You can’t just pick one. However, you can choose to only start one.
This week, Road Goff was leading the charge. Road Goff averages about 7.0 fantasy points per game fewer than Home Goff.
The Detroit Lions have their bye in Week 9, but surrounding the bye are three home games in four weeks. That means Home Goff gets to come out and play.
Fantasy managers with Goff likely aren’t scared off by one horrible game, but there’s not much out there this week. Goff is the best buy-low at the QB position.
Which QBs Should You Trade Away in Fantasy Football?
Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs
This was the week. We finally got a vintage Patrick Mahomes game. He threw for 424 yards and four touchdowns.

Now, I’m not saying you should go out of your way to sell the best player in the history of the sport. But Mahomes hasn’t been Mahomes for fantasy this season. Prior to this week, he had gone three straight games under 20 fantasy points.
For the rest of the season, I still like Josh Allen and Jalen Hurts better. If you can sell Mahomes and get one of those QBs or a haul of sorts, it’s something to consider.

Should You Trade Tua Tagovailoa for Lamar Jackson?
Both Tua Tagovailoa and Lamar Jackson have been top-six fantasy QBs this season. Tagovailoa leads the NFL in passing yards per game, while Jackson is tops in rushing. You can’t go wrong with either as your rest-of-season QB1.
With that said, Tagovailoa is far more reliant on touchdowns than Jackson. Despite averaging an extra passing TD a game, Tagovailoa is 1.75 PPG behind Jackson.

Going forward, the Ravens have a much softer schedule than the Dolphins. At this point, it is reasonable for fantasy managers to look at the playoff schedules of each. The Ravens get the Jaguars, 49ers, and Dolphins. The Dolphins get the Jets, Cowboys, and Ravens. That’s … brutal.
If you can package Tua with a WR4 or RB3 to turn him into Lamar, that is a move worth making.
Should You Trade Dak Prescott for Geno Smith?
Easily two of the most disappointing fantasy QBs this season, Dak Prescott and Geno Smith have both been middling QB2s when they were supposed to be back-end QB1s.
Smith just hasn’t looked like the same guy who was slinging it all over the field last season. Through seven games, Smith has more games under 10 fantasy points than over 20. He’s averaging just 14.27 PPG.
Prescott hasn’t been much better, averaging 14.64 PPG. However, he’s been victimized by some really weird game scripts.
Each of the Cowboys’ first five games were decided by multiple scores. None were really competitive.
We finally got to see Prescott in a close game against a below-average defense, and he put up nearly 25 fantasy points. Against the Chargers, Prescott threw for 272 yards and a touchdown while adding 40 yards and another score on the ground.
Over the rest of the season, I would project the Cowboys to be competitive in every game. There are only two or three that have blowout potential. As a result, I think better days are ahead for Prescott. I would prefer him to Smith for the rest of the season.
