The Jacksonville Jaguars‘ offensive passing production was a rather large disappointment throughout the majority of the 2023 NFL season. One overlooked factor for this offense sustained throughout the majority of the 2023 NFL season was an often-injured Zay Jones, who missed a career-high eight games last year.
What is Jones’ dynasty fantasy football value heading into the final year of his contract?
Zay Jones’ Dynasty Outlook
Jones has mostly been a fantasy disappointment since entering the league back in 2017 from East Carolina University but did manage to post a career year in 2022 with 82 receptions for 823 yards and five scores in his first season with the Jags.
The addition of WR Calvin Ridley to this offense over the offseason led many to believe Jones would be the odd man out of the Jacksonville passing attack in 2023, but Jones only averaged one fewer target per game than Ridley last season.
Jones dealt with both knee and hamstring injuries during the 2023 campaign but still proved to be fairly involved, with an average of seven targets per contest. To be fair, some of his busiest games came when Christian Kirk was out of the lineup with a groin injury, and Kirk is still under contract with the team this upcoming year.

Jacksonville will have to make a decision on whether or not to resign Ridley this offseason, which would come at the cost of sending a second-round pick to the Atlanta Falcons in the 2024 NFL Draft.
If Ridley returns, Jones will still project to be a WR4 fantasy option in 2024, which doesn’t give him a ton of dynasty value outside of deeper PPR leagues as a depth option.
If Ridley doesn’t return, Jones will get a slight boost in value for 2024, but he still doesn’t have a great long-term outlook, seeing he is in the final year of his contract and will be playing this season at 29 years of age.

Jones’ immediate fantasy value will likely depend on the team’s decision on Ridley in the coming months, but his fantasy ceiling has never been all that high during his NFL career.
He has finished as a top-30 WR in PPR formats only once in his career — WR26 finish in 2022 — which makes him an uninspiring veteran receiver to acquire ahead of the 2024 season.

Personally, I would try to offload Jones ahead of his eighth year because his fantasy value isn’t likely to increase much over the next year or two.
I would target a third or fourth-round rookie pick — or a player like Darnell Mooney, who I feel could get a bigger bump in fantasy value if he lands in the right place in 2024.
