Zach Wilson Dynasty Profile: Fantasy Outlook, Value, Projections, and Rankings

After losing his starting job, what does Zach Wilson's future look like, and what is his value in dynasty fantasy football leagues?

As we inch toward the new season, the ever-changing NFL landscape has player fantasy values constantly on the move. Whether you’re used to the dynasty platform or are still learning the rules, let’s dive into the latest dynasty fantasy football value of Zach Wilson.

Zach Wilson’s Dynasty Outlook and Value

You know the old adage, “If you’ve got nothing nice to say about someone, don’t say anything at all.”? Well, I promise I will do my best to be nice.

I don’t know Wilson personally. He’s probably a nice guy and fun to be around. But playing quarterback in the NFL just isn’t for him.

Through two NFL seasons, Wilson, the 2021 second-overall pick, has averaged 182.8 passing yards per game. With a career completion percentage of 55.2%, Wilson’s thrown the ball to the other team more times (18) than he’s thrown touchdowns to his own team (15).

There are people out there who still subscribe to the antiquated theory that quarterbacks need time to sit and learn. The days of guys like Aaron Rodgers and Philip Rivers sitting on the bench for multiple seasons before taking over as the starter are long gone. Modern quarterbacks are expected to be able to contribute right away, especially first-rounders.

Wilson was thrust into a starting role as a rookie on Day 1. Perhaps he would have benefited from at least half the season on the bench. That can explain away his poor rookie season. It doesn’t excuse a sophomore campaign where he was thoroughly outplayed by Mike White and Joe Flacco. And it doesn’t explain getting benched in-game for Chris Streveler.

Unsurprisingly, the Jets seemingly have seen enough. They made it a point this offseason to aggressively pursue veteran quarterbacks. Ultimately, they got their guy in Rodgers, sending Wilson to the bench.

    Zach Wilson’s Fantasy Ranking

In 1QB leagues, no one is rostering Wilson anyway. In Superflex leagues, every starting quarterback must be on rosters. So, Wilson was on a roster. But if you were forced to start him, you were better off using a WR3 if you could.

Wilson averaged 12.5 fantasy points per game as a rookie. That dropped to 11.8 in his second year. Both marks were around the overall QB30.

Given Wilson’s draft capital, he’ll get more chances than someone who performs like he has probably deserves. But I think we’ve already seen the last of Wilson as anything more than a low-end backup. If it’s at all possible to get anything for Wilson, fantasy managers should take quite literally anything that’s being offered.

Wilson is currently QB30 (No. 275 overall) in our dynasty Superflex rankings. I expect that to drop even further in short order.

I have absolutely zero confidence in Wilson as an NFL player. There is quite literally no round in which I would take him in dynasty startup drafts.
