Should Zach Evans Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 7

Analysis last updated at 10:14am EST on Wednesday, October 18.

One could make a very compelling argument that Williams has been the biggest surprise of the 2023 fantasy football season.

His 110 total touches for 561 total yards and seven TDs have been nothing short of fantasy gold for managers who spent a last-round dart throw on him during the draft or aggressively went after him on the waiver wire after Week 1.

Unfortunately, reports suggest Williams is set to get an MRI on his ankle to get a better idea of the severity of his ankle injury. To make matters worse, backup running back Ronnie Rivers is potentially dealing with a PCL sprain of his own.

With Williams and Rivers both dealing with injuries with uncertain timetables for a return to the field as of this moment, how aggressively should fantasy managers go after rookie RB Evans on the waiver wire?

Some of you may even be wondering exactly who this rookie running back from Ole Miss is.

Evans was a five-star recruit coming out of high school and produced 1,055 total yards and 10 touchdowns in 2022 as a member of the Rebels. He managed to see his first NFL action against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 6 but only produced 10 yards on four carries.

Regardless of Evans’ lack of involvement up to this point, if Williams and Rivers were to be unavailable against the Pittsburgh Steelers, then Evans would be in line to see north of 10 total touches in Week 7, which instantly puts him in Flex consideration.

While Williams has been great this season, Evans certainly has an intriguing skill set and profile, which is well worth adding and stashing on your fantasy football team to see exactly how severe the injuries to Williams and Rivers are.

Editor’s Note: Rivers has officially been ruled out for Week 7 and will be sidelined multiple weeks.

Editor’s Note: Williams is expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks and is likely set to return after the Week 10 bye. The team has also signed Myles Gaskin to the active roster.
