Xavier Worthy has hit a stage in his football career where he can’t choose his next destination. As a draft prospect, he has to trust that his NFL Combine-record 4.21-second time in the 40-yard dash will lead him to the right fit.
But if he were to choose his next place, he told USA Today that he envisions himself playing with a star who happened to text him after his blazing 40: Patrick Mahomes.
Xavier Worthy Explains Why He’d Fit With Patrick Mahomes and Chiefs
Worthy told Tyler Dragon of USA Today Saturday that the three-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs reached out to congratulate him.
The Texas Longhorns star wideout altered draft boards significantly one week ago in Indianapolis. After blazing to his record-breaking time, Worthy was flooded with praise. Turns out, Mahomes was one of his congratulatory responses. And on Worthy’s end, he let it be known he wants to catch passes from the multiple-time Super Bowl Most Valuable Player recipient.
“In a perfect world, I definitely would want to go to the Chiefs,” Worthy said to Dragon. “Just the way Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs improvise and use you.”
Worthy even envisions being used the same way K.C. utilized one of Mahomes’ more renowned former favorite targets.
“They had Tyreek Hill. The way they used him, I feel like that would be a perfect fit for me,” Worthy said.
Is Worthy Being Projected To Land With the Super Bowl Champs?
Before breaking the previous 40 mark held by John Ross in 2017 (ran a 4.22-second time), Worthy was projected to land somewhere in the top 50 ahead of the NFL Draft come April. PFN’s Ian Cummings, though, believed that the potential was there for Worthy to crack the first round.
“Worthy grades out as a top-50 prospect in the 2024 NFL Draft and a potential Round 1 candidate at his position. He’s a fringe top-five WR in a stacked WR class, and he might be the most overwhelming speed threat on the entire board,” Cummings wrote in his draft evaluation of Worthy before the NFL Combine.
One week after galloping to his astonishing time, is Worthy being predicted to land somewhere between the first and 32nd selection? And could the Chiefs come away with Worthy?
PFN’s James Fragoza does indeed see the Chiefs grabbing him — by moving up in the draft to No. 27 to snatch the explosive target.
“Let’s get the obvious out of the way: Yes, Xavier Worthy broke the 40-yard dash record with a 4.21 time. But he’s more than just blazing speed,” Fragoza began in his Saturday seven-round mock draft.
“Worthy is a salesman on the field, deploying head fakes and subtle body movements to put DBs in another area code. His slight frame won’t do well against more physical defenders, but Andy Reid can scheme him open and let him work.”

Fragoza’s proposal involves the Chiefs trading places with the Arizona Cardinals who, in return, grab K.C.’s No. 32 overall pick plus the 133th and 172nd selections.
While Worthy himself envisions a personal world where Mahomes and the Chiefs are turning to him on offense, there’s the belief that the fast-rising WR is going to land there regardless. For a team that’s dominated defenses with speed, Worthy and NFL fans both know he’s a prime fit inside Chiefs Kingdom.
