Kansas City Chiefs fans held their breath when rookie wide receiver Xavier Worthy gave them an injury scare during Sunday night’s 19–17 nail-biter against the Los Angeles Chargers. Worthy has emerged as an essential asset for head coach Andy Reid after arriving in the 2024 NFL Draft out of Texas.
Xavier Worthy’s Injury Is Not Serious According to His Mom
The 21-year-old celebrated a crucial third-down conversion before adjusting his finger, causing a minor panic situation to the Chiefs’ faithful. His mom, however, laughed it off on social media, tweeting: “Celebrated then popped his finger back in place lol 😂💪🏾.”

Worthy had a decent game against Jim Harbaugh’s men, catching five of six targets for 41 yards, including the critical 14-yard grab on third-and-10 during the final drive.
His contribution came against a tough Chargers defense that had allowed just 15.7 points per game this season. Worthy has now surpassed 40 receiving yards in four consecutive games, a streak he’ll look to extend against the Browns next week. Worthy’s progression adds another dimension to the Chiefs’ offense, as the rookie wideout becomes a reliable target alongside stars like Kelce.
The Chiefs’ victory secured their ninth consecutive AFC West title dramatically. Matthew Wright’s 31-yard game-winning field goal clanged off the upright before going through as time expired, capping off a 4.5-minute, clock-eating drive orchestrated by none other than two-time NFL MVP Patrick Mahomes.
Kansas City improved to 12-1 and maintained its dominance in the division. As things stand, the Chiefs are two titles shy of the New England Patriots’ record. However, the win at Arrowhead was far from easy, as the Chargers didn’t go down without a fight.
After a scoreless first half, QB Justin Herbert came alive, leading the Chargers to 17 second-half points. Herbert’s efforts, combined with a 37-yard Cameron Dicker field goal, briefly put the Chargers ahead, but it wasn’t enough.
Mahomes worked his late-game magic again, finishing with a crucial nine-yard pass to Travis Kelce and preventing the Chargers from having the ball. The Chiefs will look ahead to a Week 15 clash against Cleveland in their quest for another Super Bowl run.
