Xavier Legette is a wide receiver prospect out of South Carolina currently preparing for the 2024 NFL Draft.
After a long, five-year college career, Legette declared for the NFL Draft and is widely expected to be one of the top wide receivers selected.
How Tall Is Xavier Legette?
At the NFL Scouting Combine, Legette measured in at 6’1″. This is notable because South Carolina’s official football roster listed him at 6’3″.
How Much Does Legette Weigh?
At the Senior Bowl, Legette weighed in at 219 pounds. Again, this is significant because he was listed at 227 pounds in college.
How Old Is Legette?
Legette is a little bit of an older prospect after spending five years playing college football. Born on Jan. 29, 2001, he’s already 23 years old but won’t turn 24 until the very end of his rookie campaign.
What School Did Legette Go To?
After attending Mullins High School in South Carolina, the SC native decided to stay home, committing to the University of South Carolina. He also played quarterback in high school during his senior year.

Legette has battled adversity to make it to the NFL Draft. He lost his mother to breast cancer in 2015. In March 2019, he lost his father while making the transition from high school to college.
Revisiting Legette’s College Career
Legette suited up for South Carolina right away as a true freshman, appearing in 11 games and catching nine passes, including a touchdown. The COVID-19 pandemic derailed his sophomore year, as he played just six games catching only seven passes.
As an upperclassman, Legette’s consistency resurfaced. In 2021, he appeared in 11 games, catching eight passes for 63 yards.
In 2022, he played in 13 games, catching 18 passes for 167 yards. While this is good availability, the NFL promise and production really showed itself during Legette’s fifth year.
In 2023, he caught a career-high 71 passes for 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. His connection with quarterback Spencer Rattler was fully on display, skyrocketing him up NFL Draft boards.
Legette’s Potential in the NFL
According to his scouting report, Legette is a fringe top-10 receiver in this draft class.
Late bloomers in college don’t always translate to the NFL, but not many prospects had to overcome the emotional adversity that Legette endured.
PFN draft analyst Ian Cummings wrote in Legette’s scouting report that his combination of speed and size is what will help him translate to the next level.
“Legette grades out as a top-50 prospect and a fringe top-10 WR in the 2024 NFL Draft,” Cummings wrote. “He’s worthy of early-to-mid Day 2 consideration and could grow to become a quality X or movement-Z receiver in the NFL.
“Size-speed profiles like Legette’s simply don’t come around often. He ran a 4.39-second 40-yard dash at 220 pounds and also hit as fast as 22.3 MPH in-game during the 2023 season. Not only is Legette’s top-end speed enthralling, but he reaches that speed almost instantly and can warp coverage and tackling angles as a result.
“As a route runner, Legette has promising vertical pressing ability, blind spot IQ, bend through stems, and stopping capacity. Meanwhile, at the catch point, Legette is one of the most imposing receivers in the class with his quick reaction speed, 32″ arms and swarming catch radius, high-end contortion ability, adaptable tracking, and strong hands.”
If Legette reaches his ceiling, he can be an impact starter.
