Just when it feels like the New York Jets can’t play much worse on offense, they seem to prove that theory wrong. On Sunday, the Jets lost to the Atlanta Falcons, 13-8. The play on the offensive side of the ball was dismal once again, as they gained only 259 total yards.
The passing game was inept, as neither Tim Boyle nor Trevor Siemian could get anything going while compiling just 197 total passing yards and one interception. If there was one player who had a solid game for the Jets, it was wide receiver Xavier Gipson. The rookie had five catches for 77 yards in the loss.
With that in mind, should fantasy football managers consider nabbing him off the waiver wire in Week 14?
Should Xavier Gipson Be a Fantasy Waiver Wire Add in Week 14?
If you are truly looking to use a Jets receiver in your fantasy lineup, it is time to throw the white flag. There were obviously sky-high expectations heading into this season, considering Aaron Rodgers’ arrival. While it became clear the team’s upside took a serious hit once Rodgers got hurt, I don’t think even the Jets thought it would be this bad.

So, to answer the question of whether Gipson should be a fantasy option for you this week, the answer is an emphatic no.
The quarterbacks of the Jets have thrown for only 2,388 yards, seven touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Even with one of the best young receivers in the NFL, Garrett Wilson, the Jets just haven’t been able to produce any big plays. The seven touchdowns are a drastically low number.
While he had a solid game on Sunday, Gipson entered this game with only seven catches for 82 yards. If you are even going to take a look at him, you are going to need to see a couple more weeks of solid production. In their last five games, the Jets have scored six, six, eight, 12, and 13 points. That’s a particularly worrisome sign considering the team’s remaining schedule.
The Jets are going to finish the season going up against one of the better defenses in the NFL. The next five games are against the Texans, Dolphins, Commanders, Browns, and the Patriots. Outside of the Commanders, those other four teams all have pretty tough defenses.
To keep it simple, it is hard to have a single Jets offensive player in your lineup right now. The team isn’t scoring enough touchdowns to consider inserting any of its offensive pieces in a fantasy lineup. Even if a receiver does go off and have a big game, it likely won’t be Gipson.
Gipson’s 12 catches rank him eighth on the Jets. More than likely, you have better options on your bench. If you don’t think you do, then there will be better options on the waiver wire.
At this point, if you are signing any receiver off the waiver wire, it has to be a Hail Mary. That means a guy that is capable of scoring one or two touchdowns, and Gipson just isn’t that guy.
