This Friday on SmackDown, fans saw the bruises on Cody Rhodes’ face, reminding us of the Elimination Chamber event, where we witnessed arguably the most shocking moment in wrestling history.
John Cena, who had been the biggest babyface in the company for the past two decades, turned heel and joined forces with The Rock. With Rhodes set to face the newly turned villain at WrestleMania 41, interference from The Final Boss seems inevitable.
That’s why The American Nightmare will need an ally—someone who can help him stand against these two megastars. Recently, a former RAW General Manager has suggested a name that he believes should step up to support the champion.
Eric Bischoff Calls for Stone Cold’s Return
During a recent episode of the 83 Weeks Podcast, WWE Hall of Famer Eric Bischoff discussed Cena’s shocking heel turn. With Rhodes needing an ally, Bischoff believes Stone Cold Steve Austin would be the perfect choice.
“Give me a reason. Give me a motivation. Give me that inciting incident that takes place early on in the trajectory of this storyline where Steve Austin is interjected into the story and ask AI to go build on the history of Stone Cold Steve Austin and Dusty Rhodes to provide a backdrop narrative as to why this is important and then take us through that story.
“Take us through that arc. Put Steve in jeopardy, raise the stakes halfway through, and then hook me and pay that story off in a way that just makes me feel better about life in general. It can be done. Yep, it can be done. Do it!”
The former RAW General Manager believes Austin’s involvement in this feud—backing The American Nightmare—would make sense for several reasons. Drawing a connection to Dusty Rhodes, Bischoff added:
“That’s kinda cool. I like it. It can make sense for a lot of reasons. Dusty and Steve go back. There’s connective tissue there. There’s legendary connective tissue there, legendary. The story’s already been told.
It’s out there just wanting to be assembled in a fresh way as a backdrop for a compelling story with a feel-good ending. Somebody write that story, please. It’s not that hard, half the work is done. Use AI, I don’t care. Somebody complete that story.”
Austin’s entry into the Cena vs. Rhodes rivalry could elevate it to another level, especially considering his history with Cena’s new ally, The Rock.
Last year, in the main event of Night Two at WrestleMania, we saw legends making their presence felt one after another. Will we witness a similar thrill this year, with iconic figures once again stepping onto the grandest stage of them all?
