D-Von Dudley on Modern Tag Team Wrestling
Part of the legendary Dudley Boyz tag team, Hall of Famer D-Von Dudley shared his thoughts on changes needed in modern tag team wrestling during an appearance on the “Six Feet Under with Mark Calaway” podcast on Jan. 27.
Tag team wrestling has changed significantly over the years, and Dudley believes it used to be a major attraction. Now, he feels it has lost some of its importance.
“Nowadays, it just seems like they take people and just put them together for no reason and no chemistry whatsoever, and you’re just hoping—it’s like throwing crap against the wall and hoping it sticks. A lot of times, it just doesn’t.
“That’s the difference between the tag teams of yesterday and the tag teams of today: everybody is a ‘me, me, me’ generation. What can I do? How can I wow the people? How can I wow the crowd? And it’s like, ‘I gotta get my stuff in before everybody else gets their stuff in,'” Dudley said.
Alongside Bubba Ray Dudley, D-Von was part of one of wrestling’s most iconic tag teams, entertaining fans for years. He also mentioned other great tag teams from his era, like The Hardy Boyz, who helped make tag team wrestling must-see TV.
March 8 will be a special day for D-Von as his sons step into the ring together for the first time in Reality of Wrestling. As the sons of a legend, fans will have high expectations for the brothers, but it will be interesting to see if they can create their own legacy in the industry.
