Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Davante Adams is widely viewed as one of the NFL’s best pass catchers. Adams has been highly productive and a winner throughout his career and is revered by quarterbacks everywhere he goes. With all that being said, how is it even possible that Adams’ name is swirling around during the impending trade deadline?
While it seems preposterous to think, the fact remains that the idea of Adams being traded is being discussed around the league. The reality is that it isn’t due to the fact he isn’t productive anymore or that the Raiders don’t want him. It’s due to the fact that it seems that Adams doesn’t want them.
Davante Adams Trade Rumors
Although Adams is still considered one of the game’s best wide receivers and still has years left on his deal in Las Vegas, his name is getting a lot of buzz within the NFL world as the Tuesday trade deadline creeps closer. The reason for the discussion is due to Adams’ displeasure with his role in Vegas and his frustration on a team where he isn’t being used correctly is mounting.
The Raiders traded for the wideout two offseasons ago, then subsequently signed him to a five-year, $141.25 million deal, which made him the highest-paid wide receiver in the NFL at the time. Originally, the plan was to pair Adams with his former college quarterback and then-Raiders starting QB, Derek Carr.
However, Carr is in New Orleans now with the Saints, Adams is in a situation that he did not initially sign up for, and the combination of the two, in addition to the fact that the Raiders have struggled this season, has led to some unsettled feelings by the receiver.
Davante Adams Trade Reality
The reality of the situation is that even if Adams wants out of Vegas, it does not seem like the team feels the need to do so. According to a report from ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter from earlier last week, the Raiders have no plans to trade Adams ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.
Despite the team’s stance delivered by Schefter, Adams still added more fuel to the fire with his comments following the Raiders’ win over the Patriots.
“I’m sure people are thinking, ‘They won the game, why is there an issue?’ I mean, you see why it’s an issue,” Adams said. “Y’all should know who I am, know what I’m about at this point. When you’re a player like me, mentally, my benchmark is not wins and losses — it’s greatness.
“So when I go out there, I expect to be able to have that ability to put that on tape and have an influence on the game. That’s my purpose for being here. I’m not here just to hang out; I came here to win and to do it the right way.”
The Raiders take on the Lions tonight on Monday Night Football, and while we know the likelihood of Adams being dealt between now and tomorrow is slim to none, the fact remains if the Raiders want to keep him and keep him happy, they need to get Adams more deeply involved in the offensive game plan.
