Will Matt Milano Be Back This Season?

Matt Milano has missed time due to injury. When will the Buffalo Bills linebacker return to them in 2023?

Buffalo Bills linebacker Matt Milano was reported to be out for the rest of the season back in October. Later, head coach Sean McDermott provided a glimmer of hope that Milano could return. What’s the latest on his status?

    Matt Milano Injury Update

Milano was injured in the first quarter of their Week 5 matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London. He left the field with two trainers after having his right leg bent in a scrum late in the first quarter and was ruled out by the Bills within minutes of leaving the field.

Milano suffered the injury in the first quarter on a third-down stop while trying to get to quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Milano was carted to the locker room with an air cast on his leg.

After the game, McDermott said Milano’s injury was “not looking good,” and it was later reported that Milano had suffered a fractured leg and could have a season-ending knee injury.

The seventh-year linebacker made the Pro Bowl and was named an All-Pro for the first time last season. He was a key player on the Buffalo defense, as he had amassed 30 tackles, two interceptions, and a forced fumble prior to the injury.

It was later confirmed that Milano suffered a fractured leg and knee injury and would receive surgery, resulting in him being out indefinitely.

At a press conference on Oct. 11, McDermott did not definitively say Milano or DaQuan Jones, who was injured in the same matchup, would be out for the entire season.

“All I know is they’re going to be put on IR. They’re going through or have gone through surgery already. But that’s really where I’m at right now,” McDermott said.

While there have not been any further updates on Milano’s status, fans should not count on him being back any time soon. All signs still point to Milano being out for the remainder of the season.

The 5-4 Bills will face the 3-5 Denver Broncos on Monday Night Football this week.
