Why Was DK Metcalf Ejected? Seahawks WR Leaves Game After Brawl in 49ers Game

    Published on

DK Metcalf is one of the most talented wide receivers in the NFL, but he was ejected late in the Seahawks' loss to the 49ers.

Seattle Seahawks WR DK Metcalf was coming off a game against the Cowboys with six catches for 134 yards and three TDs. Unfortunately, things did not go as swimmingly for him against the San Francisco 49ers. The officiating crew ejected Seattle’s star weapon late in the fourth quarter of the loss.

DK Metcalf Ejected … What Happened?

The quick answer here is that Metcalf is a 6’2″, 230-pound receiver carved out of stone who is an emotionally charged player who very much hates the 49ers. The two sides were jawing back and forth throughout the game, and it was clear at multiple junctures that Metcalf was getting increasingly frustrated by how the game was unfolding.

After Drew Lock threw an interception targeting Metcalf early in the fourth quarter, the receiver used his helmet as a projectile on the sideline. But that’s not an ejectable action.

Now, Metcalf is not a defensive player, but everyone knows that you are not allowed to suplex a player like that. But even that isn’t what caused the ejection.

Fred Warner retaliated by shoving Metcalf down, but the receiver escalated the situation by grabbing ahold of Warner’s facemask with both hands.

A baseball brawl ensued (meaning no legitimate punches were thrown, and it was mostly a big huddle with some fake “hold me back” attitudes). During the scuffle, Deommodore Lenoir was also ejected from the game for jumping into the pile and appearing to take a shot at Seahawks WR Jake Bobo, whose helmet popped off.

The two ejections were the 15th and 16th of the NFL season, not including the two preseason ejections. Brad Rogers’ crew has accounted for six of them. Broncos safety Kareem Jackson has been ejected twice this season for launching/forcible contact to the head/neck area. He also leads the NFL in fines.

Metcalf can be sure to expect his actions in Sunday’s loss to hit his pocketbook as well.
