One of the best uniforms in NFL history is back once again. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will wear their classic creamsicle uniforms in their Week 6 matchup against the Detroit Lions. The home crowd will be delighted to see the uniforms for the first time in over a quarter century, as the jersey has a rich history connected to the franchise.

With their arrival finally upon us, let’s take a closer look at the historic jersey and “Bucco Bruce,” the logo on the helmet they wear with it.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

Why Are the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Creamsicle Uniforms So Popular?

The Bucs wore this colorway as their primary from 1976 to 1996 and rose in popularity during that time. Yet, they may have grown in attraction more recently as fans and people grew to appreciate the combination more as they were no longer an option to be worn.

In the height of the 70s, this jersey perfectly represented the times and felt cutting edge for the moment. Fast forward to now, and it feels much like an homage to the past and a feeling of comfortability.

What Made the Buccaneers Go Away From the Creamsicle Jersey?

Sometimes when things aren’t going well, you look for odd places to make a change. Such is the case with the creamsicle jersey.

They were in no way a reason for the woeful product on the field, but Tampa Bay opted to make a change as they were hoping to change the fortunes of the franchise at the time. During the timeframe of dawning the jerseys, winning was sparse, and the team needed a change.

    Who Is Bucco Bruce?

Bucco Bruce is not a character based on a real person but much more of an image of what former Bucs owner Hugh Culverhouse wanted the image of a tough and respected Buccaneer to look like.

He knew that if they did not do the logo right, it could look ugly and live in infamy, so it was important for Culverhouse to get it right.

While the team has not worn the uniforms since 2012, the Buccaneers certainly did get it right. The logo is one of the most beloved in all of sports, with it making its triumphant return to the field on Sunday.
