Why Are the Seahawk Jerseys Different? Explaining the Throwback Look Used Against Cowboys

One storyline of the 2023 season is teams donning throwback jerseys. Sixteen teams have worn alternate or throwback uniforms this season. The Seattle Seahawks are just adding to the list.

The Seahawks debuted their throwback uniforms earlier this season and will wear them again on Thursday Night Football.

What are the uniforms, and why are they different?

Why Are the Seahawk Jerseys Different?

The Seahawks decided to bring back their fan-favorite ’90s throwback uniforms this past offseason. They debuted them first against the Cleveland Browns in Week 8, when they won 24-20.

The uniforms are a modernized version of the team’s uniforms starting in their inaugural season through 2001. The Seahawks were formed and started playing in the NFL in 1976.

The uniforms feature royal blue jerseys, a classic silver helmet, and matte grey pants. According to the Seahawks, they represent the ’90s, which was not only a pivotal time for the franchise but also the city of Seattle.

In the 25 years that the team wore the jerseys, they won 188 games and lost 216 games. They had six different head coaches during his period.

In their win over Cleveland earlier this season when they wore them first, the Seahawks were led by Geno Smith, Kenneth Walker III, and Tyler Lockett. Smith passed for 254 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions, Lockett caught eight passes for 81 yards and one touchdown, and Walker III ran for 66 yards on eight attempts.

Heading into Week 13, the Seahawks hold a 6-5 record and the sixth seed in the NFC side of the playoff picture. They are hanging on by a thread, having lost three of their last four. Their remaining schedule includes the top three teams in the NFC by record: the Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers, and Dallas Cowboys.

The Seahawks will face the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football Week 13. The Cowboys are 8-3, competing for the top of the NFC.
