Who Won the Super Bowl Last Year? A Look Back at a Thrilling Super Bowl 57

Super Bowl 57 was one of the most exciting games in NFL history. Let's look back at what happened between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles.

The NFL is a constant source of excitement. Last year’s Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles was one of the most intriguing games of all time. What went down in Super Bowl 57?

What Happened in Super Bowl 57?

For the third time in four years, Patrick Mahomes brought the Chiefs to the Super Bowl. His opponent was Jalen Hurts’ Eagles team that spent the regular season looking like the best in football.

Both teams were their respective conference’s No. 1 seeds, finishing the regular season with 14-3 records.

The Eagles had a much easier time reaching the game. They easily ran over a New York Giants team that had overperformed last season. Then, in the NFC Championship Game, they benefited from the San Francisco 49ers losing both of their quarterbacks. Neither game was competitive.

The Chiefs’ path was much tougher. Their victories over the Jacksonville Jaguars and Cincinnati Bengals were both one-score games, with the latter a narrow 23-20 victory ending on a questionable unnecessary roughness call.

While the two teams met different levels of resistance on their way, both were very game for the Super Bowl. In the 57th Super Bowl, the Chiefs and Eagles gave us one of the best and most closely fought contests of all time.

In the first quarter, the two juggernauts traded touchdowns, with Hurts punching in a Brotherly Shove followed by Travis Kelce catching an 18-yard score from Mahomes.

The second quarter opened with another trade of touchdowns. Hurts hit A.J. Brown from 45 yards out. Then, after the Eagles’ defense held up, the Chiefs brought a fumble back for a score to tie the game.

After the game was knotted up at 14-14, the Eagles took control. Hurts ran in another one from four yards out. Then, after a quick stop, the Eagles were able to get in field goal range to take a 24-14 halftime lead.

The Chiefs were not about to go away, though. They quickly cut the deficit to three with a one-yard Isiah Pacheco touchdown plunge. The Eagles answered by closing out the third quarter with a Jake Elliott field goal.

The Eagles led 27-21 at the start of the fourth quarter. From that point forward, the game was nonstop action. The best two teams in football fired shot after shot at each other. Neither blinked.

A five-yard Kadarius Toney touchdown grab gave the Chiefs their first lead of the game with about 12 minutes to go. After a defensive stop, Mahomes hit Skyy Moore from four yards out to put the Chiefs up by eight.

Down a touchdown and a two-point conversion, Hurts led the Eagles on a scoring drive, culminating in an octopus (Hurts ran in the touchdown and the conversion) to tie the game at 35.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, a whole five minutes remained … and that’s just too much time for the most talented quarterback in the history of the sport.

Mahomes carefully marched his team down the field, using up all the remaining time. His efforts set up Harrison Butker for a 27-yard field goal with just eight seconds remaining. Butker drilled the kick, and there just wasn’t any time for Hurts to answer. The Chiefs won their second Super Bowl in three years by a score of 38-35 in the third-highest-scoring Super Bowl of all time.
