    Published on

With free agency deep into its second week and Stephon Gilmore still available, we look at the potential suitors for the veteran cornerback.

As much as things change in the NFL, in the case of veteran cornerback Stephon Gilmore and his potential fit for the 2024 season, it looks like a list of familiar destinations may be the best option for him.

With the veteran still on the open market, we look at three possible landing spots, all of which Gilmore is familiar with, as potential fits for his next NFL stop.

    Gilmore Stays in Dallas

The veteran cornerback’s most recent stop came with the Dallas Cowboys, and as we turn the page in 2024, it may once again be a good fit for him. Gilmore is well-respected in any locker room he steps into, but he was able to help mold and grow a group in Dallas that looks to be one of the most talented in the NFL.

Bringing Gilmore back will allow for budding star DaRon Bland to play the nickel corner spot and Gilmore and Trevon Diggs to be the outside CBs like they intended for 2023 before Diggs’ ACL tear.

Dallas has already signed nickel corner Jourdan Lewis, but that shouldn’t deter them from keeping Gilmore in the fold if they so choose. Adding more veteran CBs who can step up in multiple spots is never a bad thing.

    Reunited in New England

It has been reported that Gilmore is open to a return to New England, and much like in Dallas, the Patriots have a young group of cornerbacks who could benefit from being under the tutelage of Gilmore in 2024.

The Pats used their first-round pick in 2023 on Oregon CB Christian Gonzalez. Despite an injury that ended his rookie season prematurely, the future is bright for Gonzo in New England.

Gilmore can still play, and he proved that in 2023 when he stepped up to be the Cowboys’ CB1 when needed. With his ability to be consistent day-to-day, and a respected, savvy veteran, he could be an addition to a franchise that is going through some aggressive changes in 2024 and help ring in a new era the right way.

    Colts Call an Old Friend

What transpired for Gilmore to be a Cowboy was a trade between them and the Indianapolis Colts that made it happen. Fast forward to 2024, and the Colts find themselves in need of more CB help that may lead them to reach back to an old friend.

In many mock drafts circulating the NFL world, Indianapolis is slated to take a cornerback in the first round. While adding Gilmore shouldn’t stop them from doing so if they so choose, he can bring stability and familiarity to a young team that hopes to elevate in 2024.
