Who Will Sign Micah Hyde in Free Agency? Possible Landing Spots Include Colts, Jets, Eagles, and Others

Free agent safety Micah Hyde is a two-time second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowler. He’s also compiled 644 tackles, five sacks, 66 pass deflections, 24 interceptions, five forced fumbles, and eight fumble recoveries, along with 1,748 return yards for three touchdowns.

Hyde is still looking to find his next team in free agency. While safety isn’t a position with as much cache as it once had, even in a passing league, having a solid one could raise a team’s ceiling.

Indianapolis Colts Could Give Micah Hyde an Opportunity

The Colts had the 16th-ranked passing defense in yardage last year, allowing 3,842 yards through the air. Indianapolis allowed 21 passing touchdowns (10th) and had 15 interceptions (14th).

Hyde adds to it all. He was targeted 32 times (tied-39th) and allowed 25 receptions (tied-27th). He also had two interceptions and 41 solo tackles in 2023.

    J-E-T-S…JETS! JETS! JETS!

The New York Jets have an opportunity to snatch up one of the team’s most heated adversaries in Hyde. Plus, adding him to the team with more than $9 million in cap space, per Over the Cap, Hyde wouldn’t break the bank.

As for other moves from the Jets, the team brought back fellow safety Chuck Clark, who suffered an ACL tear prior to the season. Hyde could be his insurance policy. New York also lost strong safety Jordan Whitehead to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who signed a two-year, $9 million deal.

Hyde Could Link Up With Philadelphia

The Philadelphia Eagles brought back the versatile C.J. Gardner-Johnson on a three-year contract following his departure on a one-year deal with the Detroit Lions. While his addition is a strong start for the Eagles, the team could always bring in another player to help the team’s 31st-ranked passing defense.

Adding Hyde could assist Philadelphia immediately and cut down on the 4,296 yards allowed through the air. His ability to cut off passing lanes could come in handy since the Eagles allowed 35 touchdown passes and had 16 interceptions last year (24th in NFL).

    Hyde Returns to His Roots

Hyde went to Fostoria High School in Ohio. Fostoria is closest to Detroit, so the Lions could be in play. There’s also the Cincinnati Bengals and Cleveland Browns in Ohio.

Safety isn’t necessarily the biggest need for all of the teams listed, but the Lions did just lose Gardner-Johnson. It could make sense to bring Hyde in to play not too far from where he grew up.
