Who Will Sign Logan Thomas in Free Agency? Potential Landing Spots Include Seahawks, Giants, Panthers

    Published on

With many of the big-name tight ends already signed, where will Logan Thomas end up after four productive seasons in Washington?

It was a busy free agency period for tight ends, with nearly 20 free agents at the position signing new deals.

Among the best remaining options at tight end is Logan Thomas, who just wrapped up his fourth season with the Washington Commanders.

Logan Thomas Free Agency Predictions 2024

Inconsistent quarterback play has plagued Thomas as a pass catcher during his time in the NFL. Ironically, he started his career as a quarterback in 2014 with the Arizona Cardinals before converting to tight end.

In 2017 and 2018, Thomas’ first two years as a tight end were with Tyrod Taylor and rookie Josh Allen. In 2019, he was with Matt Patricia’s 3-12 Detroit Lions. Ever since, he’s been a mainstay pass catcher for Washington’s QB carousel.

After top options like Gerald Everett and Noah Fant were signed within the first week of free agency, Thomas is one of the best remaining tight ends. Let’s take a look at a few teams that could benefit from having Thomas on their rosters.

Seattle Seahawks Can Keep Making Moves at TE

The Seahawks came into this free agency period as a team to watch in the TE market. They brought back Fant and signed Pharaoh Brown, yet lost youngster Colby Parkinson to the Los Angeles Rams and Will Dissly to the Chargers.

While Fant is the more promising player at just 26 years old, adding Thomas as a backup could make sense.

New York Giants Need a Tight End If Darren Waller Retires

Darren Waller’s NFL future is uncertain. Waller’s agent reportedly spoke with the Giants and confirmed he’d be returning to New York. But not so fast.

“I have not made a decision either way,” Waller said.

The 31-year-old Waller shouldn’t handcuff the Giants from making a move just in case he decides to retire. New York could bring in Thomas as an insurance policy if Waller eventually decides to call it quits.

Carolina Panthers Can Add Thomas as a Veteran Option

The Carolina Panthers are a young team, and that’s likely by design. Currently, they’re projected to start 23-year-old Tommy Tremble at tight end.

As a rookie third-round pick, Tremble caught 23 passes for 194 yards and three touchdowns. After losing Hayden Hurst to the Chargers and Giovanni Ricci to the Cleveland Browns, Carolina could use a veteran in that room with Tremble.

The Panthers need to find out if Bryce Young is their quarterback of the future after a bad rookie season. Adding reliable, veteran pass catchers, like Thomas, will likely be affordable and help them get a better read on their QB situation.
