Who Will Sign Ezekiel Elliott in Free Agency? Possible Landing Spots Include Vikings and Cowboys Reunion

    Published on

With Ezekiel Elliott still available in free agency, we look at the potential suitors for the veteran running back.

Ezekiel Elliott is an experienced running back with an impressive pedigree of production in the NFL. While he’s not the same type of running back that he was in his younger years, the 28-year-old veteran can still bring value in the right fit.

RB markets are typically slow, especially for the veterans who aren’t viewed as game-changers any longer. However, we discuss some other fits that may make sense for Elliott and his next NFL stop.

Possible Landing Spots for Ezekiel Elliott

    Back to Big D

The Dallas Cowboys are changing up their strategy when it comes to the RB position. A team that has notoriously built around their running game, with Elliott being one of the beneficiaries of that plan, has now decided that they’re going to go cheap at the position for 2024.

Dallas has seen Tony Pollard go to Tennessee and hasn’t done much to address the loss other than signing last year’s RB2 Rico Dowdle to a one-year veteran minimum deal on Monday. This lack of inactivity can set up a situation where Elliott and the Cowboys could reunite again.

It was reported just last week by a media member within the Cowboys’ facility that a reunion is not out of the question between Elliott and the team. With the lack of activity on the open market for the veteran RB, it might set itself up nicely for that plan to happen.

Elliott will surely command somewhere close to the veteran minimum, and if he does, that’s exactly where the Cowboys want to be. Zeke understands the system, he knows the team, and he’s still well-respected in that locker room. A reunion may make the most sense for both parties involved.

Reunite With Kellen Moore in Philly

If it’s not going to be a Dallas homecoming, another familiar face may be able to welcome Elliott to his next NFL destination. The Philadelphia Eagles have already added to their RB room in a big way with Saquon Barkley, but adding a proven veteran like Elliott to spell him at a cheap price may be the right move for the team in the City of Brotherly Love.

Kellen Moore comes over to Philadelphia from his previous stop with the Los Angeles Chargers. He and Elliott have a well-established connection with one another from their time together in Dallas. Moore will spend this season implementing his system to his new squad, and Elliott knows exactly what he expects as he can come in and be a veteran presence in the unit.

    Join Aaron Jones in Minnesota

Former Green Bay Packer Aaron Jones has gone from one NFC North rival to another when he joined the Minnesota Vikings at the start of free agency. With last year’s starter Alexander Mattison headed west to Las Vegas, Elliott could be the perfect piece to back Jones up.

Outside of the obvious connections the first two landing spots presented, this move is simply a financially advantageous decision to bring another veteran presence to a room that looks to be completely turning over.

The Vikings have other needs to address, so adding Zeke on a low-budget one-year deal, and allowing him to spell Jones, will allow for them to focus on other positions in the upcoming draft.
