Who is the brave woman who has spent her life married to former college and NFL coach Urban Meyer? Meet Shelley Meyer.
Who Is Shelley Meyer?
The coach’s wife is a nurse and has taught at nursing schools like the University of North Florida and Ohio State University.
She also works with her husband, maintaining their fund for cancer research that is affiliated with Ohio State.
Mrs. Meyer tied the knot with her husband in 1986 after dating for five years. Four years later, they welcomed their first child, a daughter, Nikki, in 1990.
Three years later, Gigi Meyer would join the family. The couple’s last child, Nate, completed the Meyer family in 1998.
All three children were athletes at the collegiate level. Both daughters played volleyball, and the son played on the football team with a career as successful as his father’s playing on the gridiron.
The company, Bend Active, consulted with Mrs. Meyer to create “The Shelley Meyer Collection,” whose inspiration informed the clothing line. Some of the proceeds go to the cancer hospital Meyer works with at Ohio State.
What was the theme of the clothing line? Flamingos. So many flamingos.
Shelley Meyer Quits Social Media After the Urban Meyer Scandal
The Meyer matriarch keeps a low profile in the news. She was most recently in the public eye in 2021, when she defended her husband after his scandal when he appeared to get handsy with a college girl at a bar in Ohio while his team flew home after a tragic loss.

She decided to leave Twitter after facing backlash she didn’t deserve as a result of the scandal.
Her parting tweets also included a lecture no one needed that painted her perspective in an uncomfortable light. She tweeted in part, “We all make mistakes-we are all sinners. If you think you aren’t? Then cast the first stone.”
Unlike that one friend in high school you’re still friends with on Facebook, when the college coach’s wife said she was leaving, she actually did leave. We can’t blame her. She deserves a break, mostly from her husband.
The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, with the middle Meyer child coming to rescue her dad with a similar … unique perspective as her mother. On her Instagram, Mrs. Meyer Pruett said that she was at war with evil and finished with this monologue:
“The enemy (aka the world) REALLY doesn’t wanna see good people win. & you can argue whether my dad is a ‘good person‘ or not based on what you see in the media (a super reliable source of info as we know. Anyone who truly knows us knows how incredible he is as a person. & the world hates any platform we have, so he’s going to create chaos to destroy it. Little does he know he’s making it stronger it’s not over. Keep watching.”
Do we have to keep watching? The cringe makes it hard to watch. Sometimes it’s too shocking to look away, though. At least the Meyer family sticks together.
