Family has always been important for seven-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady, and that’s especially true with his mother, Galynn.
Here’s everything you need to know about Galynn Brady.
Galynn Brady’s Special Bond With Her Son Tom
Galynn grew up in the Browerville, Minn., area. She moved to the California area to begin her career as a flight attendant.
While working, she met her husband Tom Brady Sr., who was working for an insurance firm in California at the time. Galynn and Tom Sr. had four children — with Tom Brady Jr. being their only son.
The couple reportedly still live in the San Mateo, Calif., area near Tom Jr.’s high school.
Just like Tom Sr., Galynn had a huge impact on her son’s life and she helped steer Tom Jr. into pursuing a career in professional football.
Leading up to the start of the 2016 NFL season, however, Galynn was given horrifying news: she was diagnosed with breast cancer.
In a sit-down interview, she shared that she underwent chemotherapy for five months, ultimately causing her to miss her son’s Patriots games during the 2016-17 campaign.
When Galynn found out the Patriots were heading to the Super Bowl that season, she made it her mission to receive permission from her doctors to attend the special game. One day before her flight to Houston, she was medically cleared.
“I just wanted to be there for Tommy [Jr.], and I wanted to be there with our family,” she said in an interview.
“Everybody was going to the Super Bowl, and I didn’t want to miss that.”
In a June 2017 interview with The Boston Globe, Tom Sr. shared spectacular news: Galynn completed her cancer treatments, and she was in great health and good spirits too.
“She is doing great,” Tom Sr. said. “She is getting out and playing golf and tennis and looks wonderful.”
Due to Tom Jr. being away because of football responsibilities, Tom Sr. was Galynn’s main care provider throughout the entire process.
During the 2016-17 run to a Vince Lombardi Trophy, Tom Jr. spoke about his mother’s cancer to teammates of his and owner Robert Kraft, who presented Galynn with a championship ring.
“She couldn’t be any better, considering everything she has gone through,” Brady Jr. said to Good Morning America.

An emotional Tom Jr. went on to say he needed “love and support” from the Patriots during the time his mother was battling her cancer.
“I certainly got it,” he said.
