Who Is the Starting QB For the Vikings Today? QB Depth Chart Includes Joshua Dobbs, Nick Mullens, Jaren Hall

The Vikings have undergone plenty of QB turnover this season and could be in for some more Sunday as their offense has continued to struggle.

The Minnesota Vikings have undergone plenty of turnover at the quarterback position this season. While there have been some moments of hope, there have been too many poor results and inconsistent play to feel good about the position heading into Week 15.

With the inconsistency evident, it looks as if the team is opting to make another change at the spot for their upcoming game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Who Is the Starting QB for the Minnesota Vikings Today?

The Vikings have been trying to find their starting quarterback ever since starter Kirk Cousins tore his Achilles heel earlier in the season. It has been a struggle, to say the least.

While it has been Joshua Dobbs’ job since joining the team via trade with the Arizona Cardinals earlier in the season, the Vikings are making a change in Week 15. As the Vikings look to continue their playoff hopes, they will turn to NFL veteran QB Nick Mullens to be their starter against the Bengals.

With the change, the team believes in Mullens and his abilities, and that sentiment was echoed by offensive coordinator Wes Phillips.

“Nick knows this offense well. He’s been with us for a while,” Phillips said via the team on Dec. 13. “As good of a job and as appreciative as I am of Josh, Nick probably is more comfortable in our system just from being here longer, getting the reps throughout an offseason and training camp. So I think you’ll see an efficient group.”

Mullens is in his sixth season in the NFL and brings experience to the position, and the Vikings hope he brings stability as well. Throughout his career, Mullens has appeared in 25 games and has 17 starts. During that stretch, he has an inspiring record of 5-12.

While the Vikings had hoped that Dobbs would be able to be inserted with no other changes, the team feels like a move is needed right now and hopes that Mullens can bring that steadying hand to a season that seems to be slipping away.

Rest of the Vikings QB Depth Chart

While Mullens is getting the start this week, the rest of the Vikings QB room does not inspire much confidence right now either. Not only does it look like Dobbs is losing his starting spot, but it looks as if he will be relegated to QB3 as well, behind rookie Jaren Hall.

Hall has appeared in only two games this season, starting one of them — although he did not finish his first start due to suffering a head injury. He has only attempted 10 passes all season long but will be the next man up if Mullens comes out of the game for whatever reason.

That leaves Dobbs, and his plummet to the bottom of the depth chart. This is the third team Dobbs has been on this season, as he was first on the Cleveland Browns before being traded to the Cardinals, then once more to the Vikings. It has been a whirlwind season for Dobbs and this is just another chapter in this season’s story.
