The Tennessee Titans scored big on Friday, Jan. 17, when they announced the hiring of Mike Borgonzi, the former assistant general manager of the Kansas City Chiefs. Borgonzi will serve as Tennessee’s new general manager after a successful interview on Jan. 15.
Bogonzi replaces Ran Carthon, who was fired earlier the same month.
Who Is the New Titans General Manager, Mike Borgonzi?
Before landing the Titans GM role, Borgonzi rose through the ranks of the Chiefs organization during his 16 seasons with the team (2009-24). He was promoted to assistant general manager in 2021 after serving six seasons as the club’s director of football operations (2018-20) and director of player personnel (2015-17).

In his role as assistant general manager, Borgonzi supervised and directed college and professional scouting operations while supporting and advising GM Brett Veach with the club’s roster management and player acquisition via the NFL Draft, NFL free agency, street free agency, waiver claims, and trades.
Borgonzi had an impressive run, and it’s easy to see why his experience was attractive to the Titans. He played a role in assembling three Super Bowl-winning rosters, including back-to-back Super Bowl teams in 2022 and 2023.
He was also instrumental in curating Chiefs teams that have participated in four of the last five Super Bowls, won eight straight AFC West titles, and appeared in six AFC Championship games — hosting a record-breaking five AFC Championship Games.
Which Chiefs Players Did Borgonzi Draft?
Borgonzi was a critical cog in the front office staff that selected the talent for Kansas City’s rosters. The 2023 NFL Draft included wide receiver Rashee Rice, a rookie revelation for Patrick Mahomes. He instantly connected with the two-time MVP quarterback for 938 yards and seven touchdowns on the way to Super Bowl 58.
On the other side of the ball, defensive back Chamarri Conner hauled in an interception, a pass defensed, and 31 solo tackles.
The 2022 NFL Draft class also featured young talent who made an immediate impact. Four rookies — Isiah Pacheco, George Karlaftis, Trent McDuffie, and Jaylen Watson — were in the starting lineup for Super Bowl 57.
Borgonzi’s Career Before the NFL, Chiefs
Before joining the Chiefs, Borgonzi served as Boston College’s assistant recruiting coordinator for two seasons (2007-08). During that span, the Eagles played in the ACC championship twice and won the 2007 Champs Sports Bowl. Before working in the financial sector in Boston for several years, he was the tight ends coach at Amherst College in 2002.
Borgonzi, an Everett, Mass., native, was a four-year starter at fullback on the Brown University Football Team, where he was a three-time All-Ivy League honoree. He and his wife, Jill, have two children, Joseph and Nina. Borgonzi’s brother, Dave, is the Chicago Bears’ linebackers coach.
