Who Is the Baltimore Ravens’ Owner? History of the Bisciotti Family

    Published on

With the Baltimore Ravens just one win away from their third Super Bowl appearance, let's take a look at the team's owner, Steve Bisciotti.

As the Baltimore Ravens are on the cusp of another trip to the Super Bowl, the franchise continues to be a model of success under the ownership of Steve Bisciotti. In the 24 years since Bisciotti first purchased 49% of the franchise, the Ravens have reached the playoffs 14 times and have two Super Bowl championships.

Here’s an in-depth look at the Baltimore franchise and its owner.

    Baltimore Ravens Owner Steve Bisciotti

Bisciotti is a native of the Baltimore area, having lived in Severna Park, a Baltimore suburb, since 1961. He attended nearby Salisbury State University, graduating in 1982 with a degree in liberal arts.

Along with a cousin, Bisciotti created and developed a company called Aerotek, a staffing company in aerospace and technology. That company eventually grew into the Allegis Group.

Bisciotti first became connected to the Ravens when he purchased 49% of the franchise from owner Art Modell in the spring of 2000. Four years later, Bisciotti bought the remaining 51% stake in the franchise, becoming the full owner of the team.

What’s the Bisciotti Family’s Net Worth?

According to Forbes.com, Bisciotti has a “real-time” net worth of $7.3 billion. Along with the Ravens, much of Bisciotti’s wealth comes from the Allegis Group, a company which, according to Forbes, is the “largest staffing firm in the U.S., with more than $15 billion in yearly revenue.”

How Much Are the Baltimore Ravens Worth?

According to a 2023 evaluation by Forbes, the Ravens are estimated to be worth $4.63 billion. That is an increase of 19% from the previous year’s valuation.

That ranks the Ravens at No. 17 on the Forbes’ list of richest NFL teams.

    History of M&T Bank Stadium

After playing their first two seasons in Memorial Stadium — which the Baltimore Colts called home for years before their move out of the city — the Ravens’ first season in M&T Bank Stadium was 1998.

The stadium, which has a listed capacity of 70,745, features statues of football icons Johnny Unitas and Ray Lewis at the main entrance of the stadium.

Among the other notable events held at the stadium were four meetings between Army and Navy, as well as the Division I men’s lacrosse semifinals and championship game on six different occasions.

    History of the Ravens

The Ravens are a unique franchise because although then-owner Modell moved his Browns from Cleveland to Baltimore following the 1995 season — because of an agreement with the NFL and the city of Cleveland — the team’s name, colors, and records remained in Cleveland.

This meant that although the team personnel moved to Baltimore, the team would be viewed as starting anew, or as an expansion franchise.

Five seasons after moving to Baltimore, the Ravens won their first Super Bowl. Although they would reach the playoffs seven times over the next 11 seasons, the Ravens would not appear in another Super Bowl until the 2012 season, when they defeated the 49ers to win Super Bowl XLVII.

This is Baltimore’s first trip to the AFC Championship Game since that Super Bowl-winning season in 2012. In all, the Ravens have appeared in the playoffs in 15 of their 28 seasons, with four trips to the Conference Championship, two appearances in the Super Bowl, and a pair of Super Bowl titles.
