Former West Virginia offensive lineman Zach Frazier has a chance to hear his name called very early in the 2024 NFL Draft. There’s a lot of buzz for the All-Big 12 center, who most analysts believe is one of the top center prospects in this class.
Frazier played guard in high school and actually started in that position during his time at West Virginia. However, the team decided to move him to center, and it ended up working out for both sides, as he became a first-team All-Big 12 member last season.
Frazier is a very tough and instinctive player, with wrestling and football being a big part of his family’s history over the years.
A Look at Zach Frazier’s Parents
Zach was born to Ray and Heather Frazier on Aug. 29, 2001, in a small town in West Virginia called Fairmont.
Getting To Know Zach Frazier’s Father Ray
Like his son, Ray was also a football player during his day. He played college football at Fairmont State, where he played center. Ray Frazier was a three-year letterman, and his team won the WVIAC (West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in 1996.
Being from Florida, Ray is a big Miami Dolphins fan. His favorite Dolphins player was Hall of Fame linebacker Zach Thomas, who his son his named after.
When Zach was young, he convinced his parents that if they made an at-home gym, they would actually save money in the long run. So, in the garage, the father and son assembled a weight room that included a squat rack, weight bench, power-clean platform, and much more.
Zach has often credited his dad with being his football influence, helping to teach him technique and in fall in love with the sport.
Getting To Know Frazier’s Mother Heather
Zach’s mother, Heather, has been around sports for a long time, as her brothers were standouts when it came to wrestling. From 1993-2002, they won a wrestling state title five times.
Heather’s father was Dan Courtney, who also won a wrestling championship at 175 pounds. After the home gym was put together, he became Zach’s weightlifting coach.
Zach took all that wrestling advice from his grandfather and his uncles. He finished his high school wrestling career with a 159-2 record and four state titles. His only two losses came in his freshman year.
