Which NFL Records Can Travis Kelce Break in Super Bowl 59? Chiefs TE Looking To Make History

While speculation runs rampant about what Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce might do after Super Bowl 59 — perhaps propose to a certain pop singer on the field? — there is business to take care of first between the hash marks. And records to be broken.

Kelce, who has flirted with retirement in recent years, is hunting for his fourth Super Bowl ring as the Chiefs look to become the first NFL team to three-peat, a term coined after the Chicago Bulls won three straight NBA championships.

Personal Records for Chiefs All-Pro Travis Kelce

The New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers are tied for the most Super Bowl wins by an NFL franchise, with six apiece. Individually, Tom Brady still tops all players with seven total Super Bowl rings.

Kelce, a three-time champion in his own right, will be looking for personal glory this Super Bowl. The 35-year-old has a chance to break Jerry Rice’s record for most career receptions in Super Bowl history. Sitting at 31, Kelce needs only three more catches to surpass Rice (33). That mark could fall early if the Chiefs come out pass-heavy against the Philadelphia Eagles.

The other mark Kelce could potentially break is most career postseason receiving yards, although that mark would be more challenging. Rice is the current leader with 2,245 career yards, so at 2,039, the KC star would need 207 to shatter that record.

Rice also holds the record for most postseason receiving touchdowns (22), while Kelce comes into Super Bowl 59 with 20.

Kelce and Rice are already attached at the hip in the record books. He broke a tie in this season’s Divisional Round with the Hall of Fame wide receiver for most playoff games with 100+ receiving yards when he grabbed seven balls for 117 yards.

Additionally, Kelce and Rice are the only players in NFL history with 2,000+ receiving yards and 20+ touchdowns in the postseason.

Kelce Opens Up About Potential Retirement Plans

It appears as if Kelce will be back in a Chiefs’ uniform next year, win or lose in Super Bowl 59. There have been serious questions about his potential to retire, mainly due to his hot and heavy romance with pop star Taylor Swift, with Kelce conceivably cashing in at the height of his own fame and riding off into the sunset.

Kelce’s numbers have already clinched him a spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but apparently, he’s not quite ready to walk away from football.

“Hopefully still playing football,” Kelce said when asked where he would be in three years via NBC Sports.

“I love doing this. I love coming into work every day. I feel like I still have a lot of good football left in me. We’ll see what happens. I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life.

“That’s always been the goal knowing football only lasts for so long. You have to find a way to get into another career and another profession. I’ve been doing that in my offseason. But for the most part, I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”
