Where Is Mac Jones? Patriots Quarterback Benched vs. Cowboys

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was removed late in the third quarter from their game against the Cowboys. Here's the latest information.

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones was benched in the second half of their Week 4 matchup against the Dallas Cowboys after throwing two interceptions and being generally ineffective. Here’s the latest on what we know.

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

    Mac Jones Benched

Jones was replaced late in the third quarter in Dallas by Bailey Zappe.

Jones had two interceptions, one pick-six, and fumbled the ball, which was returned for a touchdown. Soon after coming out of the half, Jones threw a pick into the hands of Cowboys cornerback DaRon Bland

This season, Jones has put up 748 yards with five touchdowns and four interceptions. Zappe has yet to step in for the Patriots during the 2023 regular season. The Patriots are 1-2 with Jones as their starter.

In 2022, Zappe played in four games, totaling 781 yards, five touchdowns, and three interceptions.

The Patriots fell to the Cowboys 38-3. Through three possessions, Zappe went 4-for-9 for 57 yards.

    Fantasy Fallout From Jones’ Benching

After failing to generate any touchdown drives and turning the ball over three times in just over a half of football against the Cowboys, Jones has been benched in favor Zappe. Jones threw for 150 yards with no scores and two interceptions prior to his exit.

Zappe entering the game should benefit tight end Hunter Henry, who posted his best fantasy performance of his 2022 campaign back in Week 6 — four receptions for 61 yards and a TD — with Zappe under center. All other Patriots wide receivers should remain right around the same place in the weekly rankings if Zappe is the starting quarterback in the coming weeks.
