Where Did Tim Boyle Go to College? A Look at the Jets QB’s Career So Far

The New York Jets are 4-7 heading into Week 12 of the 2023 NFL season, and their playoff hopes are becoming dimmer by the day. Their season was derailed in Week 1 when quarterback Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on the fourth snap of the season.

Since then, the team has been led by former second-overall selection, Zach Wilson. That is until this week. In an attempt to save their season, the Jets have benched Wilson in favor of veteran Tim Boyle, who will start against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday.

Boyle has been in the NFL for five seasons. Where did he go to college?

Where Did Tim Boyle Go to College?

Boyle was born Oct. 3, 1994, in Hartford, Connecticut. He attended Xavier High School, where he eventually signed with and played for the University of Connecticut Huskies.

He spent three seasons with the Huskies, where he passed for 1,237 yards, one touchdown, and thirteen interceptions. Yes, you read that right. He had a 77.9 rating and 48.4 percent completion percentage.

After those three seasons, he transferred to Eastern Kentucky, where he spent his last two seasons of college football. He redshirted his senior season, and then in 2017, he passed for 2,134 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 13 interceptions.

Following his 2017 season, Boyle entered the 2018 NFL Draft. Unfortunately, he was not selected, so he signed with the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted free agent, where he spent two seasons.

    Boyle in the NFL

Boyle didn’t start an NFL game until 2021, when he was with the Detroit Lions. He started three games, earning an 0-3 record. Since then, Boyle has spent one season with the Chicago Bears in 2022 and is now with the Jets.

His joining New York was greatly due in part to the trade for Rodgers, who he spent his first two seasons in the NFL behind.

In total, though, Boyle has passed for 607 yards, three touchdowns, and nine interceptions during his five-year NFL career. He’ll be replacing Wilson, who has passed for 1,944 yards, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions just this season.

Wilson, in his third year, has passed for 5,966 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions in three seasons. The team traded for Rodgers to upgrade at the position and let him redshirt, but due to the injury, that didn’t happen. With the start of Boyle, it might signal the end of the Zach Wilson era in New York.
