The New York Jets are 4-6, and it was abundantly clear that change was necessary under center. The team has benched former second-overall selection Zach Wilson in favor of veteran quarterback Tim Boyle.
In his fifth season, Boyle will try to right the ship for the Jets while starting quarterback (and friend of Boyle) Aaron Rodgers continues to try and get healthy.
Having been on four different NFL teams now, when was Boyle drafted?
When Was Jets QB Tim Boyle Drafted?
Boyle, born Oct. 13, 1994, spent most of his life in Connecticut. He was raised in Middlefield and attended Xavier High School. Then he attended the University of Connecticut for three seasons.
Boyle started 10 total games for the Huskies after being benched just weeks into his true freshman season. He then transferred to Eastern Kentucky, where he started all 11 games as a redshirt senior and finished first in passing yards in the conference.
At UConn, Boyle passed for 1,237 yards, one touchdown and 13 interceptions. At Eastern Kentucky, he passed for 2,134 yards, 11 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. Although his stats weren’t great, he hoped a good pro-day performance could catapult him into the 2018 NFL Draft.
Ultimately, though, Boyle went undrafted. He would go on to sign with the Green Bay Packers, where he spent two seasons. There, he backed up Rodgers, just as he planned to in New York.

Prior to his New York reunion with Rodgers, Boyle spent two seasons with the Detroit Lions and Chicago Bears. In his five total seasons, Boyle has started just four games and has passed for 607 yards, three touchdowns, and nine interceptions.
The guy he’s replacing, Wilson, has been with the Jets for three seasons. In 2023, Wilson passed for 1,944 yards, six touchdowns, and seven interceptions. In his NFL career, he has passed for 5,966 yards, 21 touchdowns, and 25 interceptions. His continued struggles have left the defense out to dry as fans demanded a change at quarterback.
With the starting job as his for now, Boyle is set to face the Miami Dolphins in New York. The Dolphins sit at 7-3 on the year and are a heavy favorite in the matchup.
