In 2023, the Chiefs and Eagles met in the Super Bowl after both entered the playoffs as the top seeds in their conference. In 2021, it was the No. 4 seed Cincinnati Bengals vs. the fourth-seeded Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl.
With much of the 2023-24 playoff seeding still unknown, it will come down to Week 18. The Ravens, 49ers, Chiefs, Browns, and possibly the Rams will be resting their starters, while the rest of the NFL, particularly those in the playoff hunt, will play theirs.
The AFC and NFC South divisions are both locked in a battle, with three teams in each still having a mathematical chance to win. The Jaguars and Buccaneers have the advantage, though, just needing to win to get in. If they lose, however, things can get a bit wild.
The AFC and NFC East divisions are still open as well, with two teams in each having a shot. In the AFC East, the Bills and Dolphins will play each other, with the winner taking the division. For the NFC East, if the Cowboys win, it’s theirs. If they lose and the Eagles win, Philadelphia will take the division.
The Lions have already won the NFC North, but if they win and both the Eagles and Cowboys lose, Detroit would move into the No. 2 seed. If either of those teams wins, however, the Lions would hold the No. 3 seed. If they keep ahold of the third seed, they would likely matchup with former Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford and the Rams.
