When Did the Chicago Bears Play at Wrigley Field?

Wrigley Field is the historic baseball park that is home to the MLB’s Chicago Cubs. Some of the biggest moments in baseball, which have included some of the greatest players in the sport, have come and gone over the last 109 years. While Wrigley is known for its baseball history, there was actually a time when it was home to a football team as well.

Wrigley has seen it all in the sports world, and for a period of time, it was also the home for the Chicago Bears. Let’s take a closer look at Wrigley Field and when the Bears called it home.

When Did the Chicago Bears Call Wrigley Field Home?

The Bears played at Wrigley Field for nearly 50 years, starting way back in 1921 when they were called the Chicago Staleys. Chicago played its final game at Wrigley Field in 1970, ending its half-a-century relationship with the ballpark.

During that time, the team won eight NFL championships and was one of the league’s best teams consistently. During their tenure there, they went 219-89-22 at home over the 50-year stretch.

Bears Have Been at Soldier Field Ever Since

The following year after ending their relationship with Wrigley Field, the Bears moved to Soldier Field for the 1971 season and have not left the stadium since. The Bears have called Solider Field home from that moment, but it looks as if that may be changing sometime in the future.

A New Day Coming for Chicago?

The Bears are looking for a change for their franchise, and that may come by way of a new stadium at a new location. The Bears put a purchase agreement on a property called Arlington Park in September of 2021. One year later, the Bears unveiled plans to build a fully enclosed dome stadium on the property. They also unveiled plans to build a multi-purpose entertainment, commercial/retail, and housing district on the land.

While the plans are in the early stages, it looks like there may be a new and improved stadium for the Bears and their fans after spending much of their franchise’s history in just two stadiums.
