The Las Vegas Raiders travel to US Bank Stadium to take on the Minnesota Vikings.
Las Vegas is in a weird spot. While the roster has intriguing pieces littered across it, the Raiders are hindered at the quarterback position being capped at a low ceiling. A starter hasn’t been determined as a preseason battle between Gardner Minshew and Aidan O’Connell takes place.
WR Davante Adams and Jakobi Meyers remain on the roster as reliable sets of hands for either signal-caller. Throw in rookie Brock Bowers and second-year tight end Michael Mayer, and it’s a good start.
However, there was a significant loss with Josh Jacobs leaving to sign with the Green Bay Packers. The Raiders plan to roll with third-year back Zamir White but also signed Alexander Mattison to round out the backfield.
The 2024 offseason splurge came on the defensive line, signing DT Christian Wilkins to a four-year, $110 million contract. Wilkins has been a dominating presence on the Dolphins defensive line against the run during his five-year career and has blossomed into a productive pass rusher. In 2023, he had a career-high 32 QB hurries, 25 QB Hits, and nine sacks.
Paired with DE Maxx Crosby, who last season had 14.5 sacks and has amassed 52 sacks in his five seasons with the Raiders, Las Vegas is putting together a ferocious defensive front. With the pass rush ready, will the secondary give them enough time? They will be asking a lot of them with Marcus Peters and Amik Robertson gone.
