The next Week 2 preseason NFL game today sees the New York Jets heading to Bank of America Stadium to take on the Carolina Panthers. The Jets hosted the Washington Commanders in their preseason debut, and despite a good appearance from rookie Jayden Daniels, New York scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to steal the win.
Former UFL MVP and UFL Championship Game MVP Adrian Martinez helped lead the Jets down the field at the end of the game as one of two young signal callers who shined for New York. Rookie Andrew Peasley also had an excellent NFL debut, completing eight of 11 passes for 73 yards and a touchdown to WR Jason Brownlee.
With Jordan Travis still nursing a broken leg suffered late last season, Peasley and Martinez are getting extra snaps, but only one will likely make the roster. If they continue to perform like this, they will make the Jets coaching staff’s decision challenging.
Meanwhile, the Panthers struggled like last season, scoring just three points against the New England Patriots in their preseason debut. Second-year QB Bryce Young got the week off, but Jack Plummer and Jake Luton struggled to move the offense up and down the field as New England held Carolina to just 151 yards.
While Panthers rookie head coach Dave Canales made it a night for the rookies, Panthers fans will be anxious to see some of their starters hit the field for more excitement. Although Diontae Johnson and Adam Thielen are set to lead the WR core, the Panthers need some of the younger options like Jonathan Mingo and rookie Xavier Legette to fill in behind the veterans to make the Panthers QBs’ life more manageable.
