First, we saw Netflix debut Quarterback, where they followed Kirk Cousins and others around to get an exclusive inside look at the life of a QB in the NFL. Now, they are set to follow the game’s best wide receivers in a similar docuseries.
What Is Netflix’s Receiver?
With the previous installment being a smash hit for the streaming giant, they are once again set to give fans another unique look inside the helmet of some of the NFL’s biggest stars in Receiver.
The new docuseries is set to be produced by NFL Films, Omaha Productions, and 2PM Productions, the same team behind last year’s Quarterback series. Receiver is an eight-episode series set to premiere in the Summer of 2024 as a continuation of Netflix’s relationship with the NFL.
Quarterback hit the Netflix Global Top 10 for three weeks last year, and the idea of Receiver having similar success is not far-fetched.
Netflix’s VP of nonfiction sports spoke about the announcement and the thought process that led to them making the new season.
“The natural progression is from a pass to a catch, so we’re excited to dive into the ‘Receiver’ world after the success of our ‘Quarterback’ series,” said Gabe Spitzer. “NFL Films, Omaha Productions and 2PM Productions have delivered again in finding unique and dynamic athletes who will further highlight the drama of this sport on and off the field.”
Who Will Be Featured on Receiver?
Receiver will follow Las Vegas Raiders’ Davante Adams, Minnesota Vikings’ Justin Jefferson, Detroit Lions’ Amon-Ra St. Brown, and two San Francisco 49ers’ in George Kittle and Deebo Samuel.
NFL fans will get a unique perspective and look inside the day-to-day life of all these NFL pass catchers as they navigate the ups and downs of the 2023 season as it unfolded.
Storylines may include the change in head coach for Adams and the Raiders, the loss of Cousins in Minnesota for Jefferson, as well as the deep playoff run that culminated into a classic NFC Championship Game clash between Kittle, Samuels, and St. Brown as the 49ers advanced to Super Bowl 58.
