What Is Justin Fields’ Record as a Starter?

    Published on

Justin Fields was one of the more dominating players while at Ohio State. But what is his record as a NFL quarterback?

Justin Fields won plenty of games when he moved to Columbus, Ohio. If it weren’t for a national title game loss in the 2020 season and another College Football Playoff loss, Fields would’ve gone a perfect 22-0 at Ohio State.

In his transition to NFL quarterback, the Chicago Bears starter has yet to duplicate that kind of success. Which raises the question, what is Fields’ record?

From the current NFL standings to team depth charts to coverage of every game in the 18-week NFL schedule, we have all the news from around the league to keep you up to speed!

Justin Fields’ Win/Loss Record as an NFL Starter

Now in his third season and heading toward his 30th career start, Fields’ record is a dismal 5-24 overall in the league. Here’s a breakdown:

    • In his rookie season, Fields went 2-8 overall as the starting QB for the Bears.
    • In Year 2, Fields managed to win one more game than his rookie campaign. However, he still went 3-12 overall.
    • In 2023, he and the Bears are winless at 0-4.

He had five wins in his first three seasons of the league. And again, he’s set to have his 30th career NFL start on Thursday Night Football with the Washington Commanders on the other side.

This was once a quarterback who got used to playing for the richest prize in college football: the national championship. He helped spearhead a pair of CFP appearances in his rise to a high NFL Draft pick with the Buckeyes. He set a litany of school records at a place deep in football tradition.

But has he had any signature NFL wins among the five he’s collected?

In a rotational role with Andy Dalton, Fields went 6 of 13 for 60 yards but added 31 rushing yards in the 20-17 win over the Cincinnati Bengals — the same Bengals that went on to win the AFC title that year.

Fields’ most signature win came at the start of the 2022 season.

With fellow 2021 NFL Draft first-rounder Trey Lance on the other sideline, Fields led the Bears to a rain-drenched 19-10 win. Fields went 8 of 17 for 121 yards and, despite the rain, threw two touchdown passes. That Bears win, though, ended up being Fields’ last victory at Soldier Field.

Fields and the Bears’ last win was on Oct. 24, 2022, at Gillette Stadium in the 33-14 romp of the New England Patriots.
