What Is Josh Allen’s NFL Playoff Record? A Look at the Bills QB’s Postseason Achievements

    Published on

Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen has a mediocre record in the postseason, thanks to three losses to Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.

If you eliminate Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen’s 0-3 record against the Kansas City Chiefs and quarterback Patrick Mahomes, he is a respectable 5-2 in the playoffs. But because we can’t pick and choose which games to include, Allen sits with a .500 record in postseason play.

Josh Allen and Bills Still Looking To Get to Super Bowl Through Kansas City

The Bills and Allen have won the AFC East for the fifth year in a row. However, Allen has never directed Buffalo to a Super Bowl. They are trying to change history this postseason.

Allen has been to the postseason every year since he was drafted with the exception of his rookie season. And as mentioned above, he’s won five playoff games against five losses.

In 2019, the Bills were quickly eliminated in the Wild Card round by the Houston Texans. Buffalo made a giant leap, though, a year later, defeating the Indianapolis Colts and Baltimore Ravens to get to Allen’s first AFC Championship Game to square off against Kansas City. But the Cinderella story came to an end as the Chiefs got the better of the Bills 38-24.

If only the Chiefs could move to the NFC, Buffalo might make a Super Bowl. Kansas City has ended the Bills’ postseason run in three of the last four seasons. It has always come down to Allen vs. Mahomes. And Mahomes has won more than he’s lost in the postseason, which is why he has three rings already, and Allen is still searching for his first.

Mahomes and Allen have gone head-to-head on three different occasions in the playoffs. Statistically, they are very similar in nature, but when it comes to Super Bowls, Mahomes countlessly comes out on top.

Mahomes is 3-0 against Allen and appears to be the Buffalo QB’s kryptonite standing in the way of him getting to the big dance. But maybe this is the year Allen can finally get past his rivals on the road to glory. And if we go by PFN’s QB+ metrics, there’s a very good chance in him doing so.

Heading into the postseason, Allen ranks third in PFN’s quarterback rankings with an A- grade and a 92.2 score. Meanwhile, Mahomes just sneaks into the top 10 with an 84.8 score (B grade). Much of that has to do with the Chiefs relying more heavily on their defense this season, but it’s clear that Mahomes has not played to the same level as he has in recent years.

Allen’s Super Bowl journey with the Bills this year begins against the Denver Broncos, who are led by rookie quarterback sensation Bo Nix, on Wild Card Weekend. Should Buffalo defeat Denver, the Bills would then host the Ravens next weekend in the Divisional Round.

The Bills are the No. 2 seed in the AFC and would host yet again a week later in the AFC Championship Game with a win over Baltimore and a Kansas City loss. If the Chiefs prevail against the Texans, however, Buffalo would then need to go through Kansas City yet again in order to reach the Super Bowl — something they haven’t proven successful in doing to this point.
