What Happened to Will Levis? Titans Bench QB in Favor of Mason Rudolph in Week 15 vs. Bengals

    Published on

Will Levis' rocky sophomore season took another downturn in Week 15. Read about why the Titans benched their second-year quarterback vs. the Bengals.

Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis saw his day end early in Week 15 vs. the Cincinnati Bengals. It wasn’t due to injury, though, as another poor performance from Levis sent him to the bench.

    Why Was Will Levis Benched

Levis took a seat after throwing yet another pick-six in the third quarter, his league-leading fourth of the season. No other quarterback has thrown more than two pick-sixes this season.

Mason Rudolph entered the game with the Titans down 31-14 after that.

It was the culmination of an abysmal day for Levis, who went 8-for-12 for 89 yards and three interceptions against a poor Bengals pass defense.

The second-year pro has not taken a step forward under new head coach Brian Callahan, leaving his future in Nashville, Tenn., murky. Levis is tied with Kirk Cousins for the league lead with 17 turnovers despite missing three games and leaving a fourth one early due to injury.

Calvin Ridley has been a sporadic option this season, but his 14.8 yards per catch at least gave him upside when the dots were connected. The odds of that happening do take a hit without Levis’ big (albeit inconsistent) arm under center.

The lack of a downfield element could also hurt Tony Pollard’s efficiency, though that is more speculative than actionable at this point.
