Aaron Rodgers To Play With the Starters

This past week, Jets head coach Robert Saleh was asked why it was important for the veteran QB to actually play during the preseason.

“You know, I’ve said it before, even though he’s been in the league for 19 years, he’s going into a new stadium, he’s got new colors on, he’s got new teammates, new play-caller, everything’s new.

“It’s not so much about him, but everybody else around him hearing him for the first time, feeling him in a game-like setting, feeling his cadence, feeling his demeanor in the huddle, feeling him at the line of scrimmage, and so as much as it is for him, it’s even more so for the guys around him, so they can feel the tempo that he wants in and out of the huddle and we can make the adjustments off of it.

“Rather than waiting until Week 1 and then making the adjustments after that, well, let’s see what it feels like now and make the adjustments we need so we can get better for Week 1 and then make more adjustments and so on and so forth.”

With that being said, it would be highly unlikely that we see a ton of Rodgers in this one. It hasn’t been much of a secret that the Jets’ offensive line has struggled this offseason. Rodgers has been openly critical of the guys protecting him, and we have seen some clips of their struggles during training camp.

If Rodgers gets hit even once, it wouldn’t be a complete surprise to see Saleh switch things up and get Zach Wilson some more playing time. Wilson has looked good so far this offseason, and he has openly talked about how much having a mentor like Rodgers has improved his game.

Will Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley Play This Week?

Giants head coach Brian Daboll has kept things pretty close to the chest during the preseason. He has yet to announce whether or not Daniel Jones will get the start this week.

Outside of Jones, the Giants currently have two other quarterbacks on their roster — one being a well-traveled NFL veteran and the other an inexperienced rookie.

Their QB2, however, is solidified by the aforementioned long-time NFL veteran Tyrod Taylor. Taylor is heading into his 13th season as a quarterback in the NFL, while his latest stop in New York makes the Giants the fifth different franchise he has played for in his lengthy career.

He started the Giants’ first preseason game and looks to be the first man up regardless of how the team handles Jones tonight.

When it comes to star running back Saquon Barkley, it is unlikely we see him get any playing time today. He has yet to play during the preseason, and unless Daboll wants to get all his starters some reps, Barkley will probably be on the sideline again.
