After a matchup between two teams atop the NFL a week ago, Sunday Night Football flips the opposite way in Week 8 with two of the more disappointing teams in the league this season. While not much was expected for Chicago this season, there have been far too many lowlights compared to celebrations.

After QB Justin Fields and the offense finally seemed to get something going, the QB went down with a dislocated thumb against the Vikings in Week 6. Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent gets his second start after getting Chicago a win against the Raiders a week ago.

Meanwhile, sirens have to be sounding for the Chargers. While some of the issues on offense can be attributed to injuries, QB Justin Herbert can only do so much. This was on full display the past two weeks as the Chargers’ offense struggled to stay competitive and failed to score more than 17 points.

The more significant issues lie on the other side of the ball. Los Angeles’ defense is hemorrhaging yards and giving their opponents every opportunity to stay in games and even win them down the stretch. Outside of the 31-17 loss to the Chiefs last week, the other three Chargers losses have been by three points or less.

They’ve needed one stop to win these games, and the defense can’t give the offense the help it needs. If Bagent and the Bears find a way to win this game tonight, Chargers HC Brandon Staley could quickly become the first coach fired this season.
