Week 17 Fantasy Start/Sit: Kyle Yates’ Last-Minute Advice Includes Isiah Pacheco, De’Von Achane, and Ty Chandler

It’s fantasy football championship week, and our start/sit decisions mean everything this time around. There can be no room for second-guessing or overthinking these choices on this fine Sunday morning, so what information do you need to know?

Here to help guide you is my last-minute advice going into Week 17 on players such as Isiah Pacheco, De’Von Achane, and Ty Chandler. Additionally, you’ll find my complete Superflex rankings.

Week 17 Start ‘Em, Sit ‘Em

Should You Start Isiah Pacheco in Week 17?

Fantasy managers got a bit of a surprise on Saturday when the news came across that Pacheco had cleared concussion protocol and would be suiting up for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 17.

Unfortunately, just because Pacheco is cleared to play, it doesn’t mean that he’s instantly inheriting his normal workload. The former Rutgers RB was in concussion protocol for the majority of this week before returning to practice in a limited fashion on Friday and eventually clearing the protocol on Saturday.

If the Bengals were a more stout run defense up front, I would be recommending sitting Pacheco in fantasy championship week. However, as the Bengals are allowing the seventh-most rushing yards per contest this season with 127.3, Pacheco should have plenty of opportunity to rack up the rushing yardage in this one.

With the passing game struggling, the Chiefs could focus on the run game even more than normal in this particular matchup. Pacheco lands just inside my top 20 RBs on the week.

Final Verdict: Start ’em

Should You Start De’Von Achane in Week 17?

It looked like fantasy managers struck gold early on in the season with Achane, but injuries have forced the rookie RB back down the fantasy rankings to a point where it’s a question of whether or not he should be considered in starting lineups.

Over the last three games, Achane has seen just 23 carries, and he’s coming off of an RB50 fantasy finish in Week 16 against the Dallas Cowboys. Additionally, the matchup against the Baltimore Ravens this week is downright frightening, as they’re allowing the sixth-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing RBs.

However, with Raheem Mostert being listed as questionable going into this matchup, there’s the potential for Achane to see an increased workload and be a factor in tipping the scales for fantasy managers in their championships.

Editor’s note: Mostert is not expected to play in Week 17.

If Mostert is inactive, which we’ll know by around 11:30 a.m. ET, Achane can be started as a top-18 RB for fantasy purposes. However, if Mostert is active, there’s simply no way you can trust the workload for Achane in a tough matchup in such a critical week. I’d recommend pivoting if given the opportunity.

Should You Start Ty Chandler in Week 17?

Chandler had the backfield essentially to himself in Week 16 against the Detroit Lions, but the explosive RB carried the ball just eight times for 17 yards. He managed to find the end zone, which saved his fantasy day, but he still only ended the week as the RB37 in half-PPR scoring formats.

Now, Alexander Mattison is fully healthy and should be a factor in this backfield again. We don’t know for certain whether or not Chandler will be the featured RB in this offense. Fantasy managers are caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to figuring out whether or not he can be trusted in championship week.

The fact that the Vikings are going up against the Green Bay Packers, who are allowing the ninth-most fantasy points to opposing RBs this season, makes me believe that Chandler can still be considered for starting lineups. However, if you have another option that you are certain will receive more volume, it’s best to go in that direction.

Players like Derrick Henry, James Conner, Ezekiel Elliott, and Austin Ekeler are all options that can be looked at over Chandler in Week 17 due to the high floor that they provide. If you need to swing for the fences, though, Chandler’s big-play potential could help make up for any deficit that you face after the first two games of the weekend slate.
