Washington Football Team vs. New England Patriots | Preseason Week 1
Washington enters this preseason game with a new QB under center, having signed the longtime veteran Ryan Fitzpatrick during the offseason. Behind him, a fierce battle is taking place for QB2 between Kyle Allen and Taylor Heinicke.
On the other side of the ball, the Patriots are in the midst of a QB controversy. Cam Newton is seemingly the starter coming into the preseason, but rookie Mac Jones has impressed in camp. Will Newton hold onto his position, or will Jones supplant him as the QB1 in New England? Expect to see plenty of fireworks between the two in this preseason matchup.

Washington Football Team vs. the Patriots is one of the more exciting games during Week 1 of the NFL preseason. Washington head coach Ron Rivera has already gone on record saying that he plans to play his guys.
“We’re gonna play our guys on Thursday,” Rivera said of the NFL preseason opener against the Patriots. “I’ll tell you that right now. I mean, it’s a great opportunity. It’s against a very good football team. Well coached. So, I’m excited about that potential.”
We rarely see a coach commit to playing his starters in a preseason game. This could explain why the line has moved in Washington’s favor ever since the announcement. Just imagine a defensive line with Montez Sweat and Chase Young playing against an offensive line riddled with second and third-string players.
The possibility of Mac Jones playing an extended amount of time gives me some hope for New England, but the play is definitely on Washington laying less than a field goal.
