‘Wanted That Taste Out of Our Mouth’ – NFL Veteran Warren Sapp Points to the Moment Colorado Buffaloes Turned Things Around After Kansas Loss

Colorado Buffaloes defensive coach Warren Sapp discussed the impressive rebound performance in Week 14 after their crushing loss to Kansas.

In a recent interview, former NFL defensive tackle Warren Sapp highlighted how important it was for the Colorado Buffaloes to defeat the Oklahoma State Cowboys last weekend. Now a member of the Buffaloes staff, Sapp explained how Shilo Sanders’ massive hit on Cowboys running back Ollie Gordon II was a game-changing play for the Buffaloes.

The Buffaloes shut out the Cowboys 52-0 after losing a week prior in devastating fashion to the Kansas Jayhawks. The loss to the Jayhawks was crushing for the Deion Sanders-led program as it saw the Buffaloes drop from second to fourth place after the week’s action. As a result, it was important for the program to bounce back against the Cowboys.

What Did Sapp Say About Kansas Loss and Sanders’ Impressive Play?

Sapp explained how Sanders’ hit was crucial in the program’s rebound effort after the Kansas loss.

“I think it sent a message to the whole team,” he detailed.

Sapp later outlined how important achieving the win last weekend was for the Buffaloes program.

“It was a beautiful thing to see because after what happened in Kansas City, I wanted that taste out of our mouth so bad,” he stated.

What Does Future of the Buffaloes Football Program Look Like After Win Against the Cowboys?

Following the impressive win against the Cowboys, the Buffaloes currently hold a 9-3 overall record this season. Furthermore, they hold a noteworthy 7-2 conference record against Big 12 opponents on the campaign.

In addition to the team’s success, the Buffaloes currently have numerous top prospects who are expected to win numerous awards this year and be drafted quite high in the 2025 NFL Draft. For example, Shedeur Sanders is the projected No. 2 overall pick and star dual-threat player Travis Hunter is expected to be taken No. 4 overall, according to Pro Football Network’s Derek Tate in his recent 2025 NFL Mock Draft.

As a result of this, the Buffaloes are expected to lose key players to the NFL come the draft. However, the aggressive recruiting tactics by Coach Prime instill a confidence that the Buffaloes will not fade into the background of the college football scene.

With top prospect Julian Lewis committing to play quarterback for the Buffaloes, it appears the future is bright in Boulder.
