Week 14 signals the start of the 2020 fantasy football playoffs, making those all-important waiver claims as crucial as ever. Let’s take a look at who are the top targets and potential pickups on the Week 14 waiver wire, including both Ty Johnson and Cam Akers.
Waiver Wire Targets Week 14: Quarterbacks
Let’s take a look at a few of the best quarterback options.
Philip Rivers, Indianapolis Colts (at Las Vegas Raiders)
Rivers is posting over 20 fantasy points per game the last several weeks. This week he has a juicy matchup against a Raiders defense that is struggling against opposing QBs. They rank 10th against the position in Pro Football Network’s Defensive Points Allowed Consistency Score (D-PAC) while allowing the ninth most fantasy points per game to the position. Getting TY Hilton involved has been crucial for the Colts offense, and it has benefitted Rivers fantasy value as well.
Mitchell Trubisky, Chicago Bears (vs Houston Texans)
This is the second week in a row that I am recommending Trubisky; I know! Picking up Trubisky goes beyond this favorable matchup against Houston, as he also faces the Vikings, and Jaguars, the next two following weeks. The Texans and Jaguars both rank in the top 10 against the position in terms of D-PAC, with the Jaguars having the highest D-PAC in the league. Could Trubisky really win you a championship? It is very possible.
Other quarterbacks to consider adding in Week 14:
- Tua Tagovailoa, Miami Dolphins (vs Kansas City Chiefs)
- Mike Glennon, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs Tennessee Titans)
Waiver Wire Pickups Week 14: Running Backs
Let’s take a look at a few of the best running back options.
Cam Akers, Los Angeles Rams (vs New England Patriots)
I finally feel great about Cam Akers volume in the Rams backfield. It is evident he is the best back on the Rams’ roster, and if we can see it, I want to believe Sean McVay knows it as well. With 21 carries and a 63% snap share, Akers saw his highest usage of the season in Week 13. Hopefully, that usage for Cam Akers continues down the stretch for fantasy teams.
Ty Johnson, New York Jets (at Seattle Seahawks)
Frank Gore is dealing with a concussion, and if he cannot play this week, the Jets will take an even deeper look into the young talent on their roster, which includes Ty Johnson. Johnson posted over 100 rushing yards and a score last week. This week Ty Johnson faces a Seahawks defense, which ranks fourth against the position in D-PAC and eighth in fantasy points allowed (both PPR).

In deeper leagues, take a look at Josh Adams. In Week 13 he saw eight carries and turned it into 74 yards. The efficiency likely will not stick, but the opportunity just might.
Other running backs to consider adding in Week 14:
- Adrian Peterson, Detroit Lions (vs Green Bay Packers)
- JD McKissic, Washington Football Team (at San Francisco 49ers)
- Jeff Wilson, San Francisco 49ers (vs Washington Football Team)
- Ito Smith, Atlanta Falcons (at Los Angeles Chargers)
Waiver Wire Targets Week 14: Wide Receivers
Let’s take a look at a few of the best wide receiver options.
Keke Coutee, Houston Texans (at Chicago Bears)
Will Fuller is serving a suspension, and Brandin Cooks was taken out of the game due to concussion protocol last week. That opened the door for Coutee to put up a career-high number in receiving yards (1141). Hopefully, Week 15 will produce this much volume for the dude with the cool name.

The Jaguars have the highest D-PAC against the position and give up the sixth-most fantasy points per week in PPR scoring. The Texans have limited receiving options, and if Cooks goes out of the game again, Coutee is by far the most experienced receiver on the roster. Look for the third-year pro out of Texas Tech to have a big finish to the 2020 season.
Tim Patrick, Denver Broncos (at Carolina Panthers)
Patrick is arguably the best wide receiver in Denver. When playing with a legit gunslinger, Patrick delivers in fantasy. This season, he has topped 100 receiving yards three times, has four or more receptions eight times, and has scored five touchdowns. Better too late to the Patrick Party than never attend it at all.
TY Hilton, Indianapolis Colts (at Las Vegas Raiders)
TY Hilton is not a familiar name to feature on lists of waiver wire pickups historically. Usually, he is firmly rooted on your fantasy roster, but that has not been the case for most of 2020. It has taken a while, but Hilton appears to be back among the land of the fantasy relevant. The last two weeks have seen him put up 12 receptions, 191 receiving yards, and two touchdowns on 16 targets. The matchup is nothing more than average, but when Hilton is playing at his very best, he is a player that needs to be rostered in all fantasy leagues.
Other wide receivers to consider adding in Week 14:
- Collin Johnson, Jacksonville Jaguars (vs Tennessee Titans)
- Rashad Higgins, Cleveland Browns (vs Baltimore Ravens)
- Denzel Mims, New York Jets (at Seattle Seahawks)
- Nelson Agholor, Las Vegas Raiders (vs Indianapolis Colts)
Waiver Wire Pickups Week 14: Tight Ends
Anthony Firkser, Tennessee Titans (at Jacksonville Jaguars)
If Jonnu Smith continues to be inactive, Firsker is a tight end you want on your roster. Tannehill targeted Firkser seven times last week, and this week has a favorable matchup. The Jaguars have the fifth-highest D-PAC against the tight end position this season. The tight end position has been a difficult one all season, and this could be a sneaky good spot start for week one of the playoffs.
Other tight ends to consider adding in Week 13:
- Logan Thomas, Washington Football Team (at San Francisco 49ers)
- Jordan Reed, San Francisco 49ers (vs Washington Football Team)
Waiver Wire Targets: Defense
