Von Miller Terms Lamar Jackson as a Unique NFL Quarterback Talent

Going up against Jackson is usually a nightmare for even the fastest edge rushers in the NFL. The two-time MVP is in the form of his life. Thirty-five-year-old Miller spoke glowingly about the unique talents of the Ravens superstar on “The Rich Eisen Show” when asked how he plans to defend Jackson:

Lamar Jackson is a very very unique player, and there’s no other quarterback in the history of the game that’s played quarterback like Lamar Jackson. A great combination of running ability and passing ability.”

“He’s got a lot better passing the ball. He’s one of the elite passers in the league. He’s one of the elite runners in the league. It’s lightning in a bottle.”

This proficiency as a passer is evident in his performance in 2024. During the NFL’s regular season, he posted the highest QB+ grade in the league, logging the only 99.8 grade in the NFL since at least 2019, as far as PFN’s QB+ metric data dates back.

“Sometimes you get rookie quarterbacks, they get afraid back there and take off running. You can see him really dancing in his pocket as well. He’s trusting his offensive line when he drops back, steps up, drops back out, steps back up. Finds an open guy by time. He’s truly an elite player. I’m a fan of Lamar Jackson.”

Miller makes a compelling case for why neutrals find Jackson to be such an entertaining player. The 28-year-old has put together a season for the ages in 2024, amassing 41 passing touchdowns and throwing just four interceptions.

Jackson became the first NFL player in league history to have 4,000 passing yards and 900 rushing yards in the same season. His passer rating of 119.6 this year is fourth all-time. His prowess as a passer has also helped Derrick Henry put up the best rushing season ever by a running back at the age of 30 or older, with 1,921 rushing yards.

The Ravens’ offense is working like a buzzsaw with Jackson in charge this year, posting a grade of 93.4 during the 2024 regular season, second-best in the NFL according to PFN’s Offense+ metric. Buffalo will be under immense pressure to keep him bottled up for an entire playoff game.
