The 2024 NFL season started tremendously for the Minnesota Vikings, with five consecutive wins in the first few games. Led by quarterback Sam Darnold, the team’s winning streak was put on hold as they faced back-to-back losses against the Detroit Lions and the Los Angeles Rams.
However, the Vikings are one step closer to regaining their lost momentum following this week’s electrifying 21-13 win against the Indianapolis Colts. Vikings quarterback Darnold struggled with the ball a few times but made up for it by throwing three touchdown passes during the second half.
What Did Addison’s Father Say About the Vikings’ Starting QB?
One of Darnold’s few bad decisions came when he threw his second interception during the fourth quarter. The quarterback couldn’t see Jordan Addison breaking free on a downfield route as the Colts’ Nick Cross intercepted a ball thrown for Justin Jefferson near midfield.
This missed opportunity for Addison triggered a reaction from his dad, who took on social media to fire shots at Darnold:
Even Stevie Wonder could see Jordan Addison is open on Sam Darnold’s interception!!!🤷🏾♂️

Head Coach Kevin O’Connell Expresses Faith in Sam Darnold
Vikings head coach Kevin O’Connell stands firmly behind his quarterback despite a few mishaps. While Darnold didn’t exactly wow in the game against the Colts, completing 28 of 34 passes for 290 yards, three touchdowns, and two interceptions, O’Connell still has his faith firm in Darnold’s ability to lead the team.
“We’ve got some guys that coach this football team, and Sam’s game in totality was very accurate,” O’Connell shared.
He praised Darnold for his precision. O’Connell values the ability to ignite the offense with big plays, particularly in critical moments. The Vikings HC also noted the success of their opening drive, saying Darnold was making plays even against tough coverage.
He stressed the importance of Darnold’s aggressiveness, especially on scrambles. “I want him to be aggressive on those scrambles because he’s a very talented thrower,” he stated. He also added that while a few passes fell short, his trust in Darnold’s skills isn’t shaken.
The Vikings’ offense faced struggles in the first half, but Darnold picked up his game in the second half, bringing the team back with 21 points after halftime.
O’Connell believes Darnold’s performance was critical to the team, stating, “My trust in Sam is something that I think will be a winning edge for our football team.”
For Vikings fans, it’s clear: O’Connell is sticking with Darnold. They can only hope that the 27-year-old QB gets his act together.
