The third day of Minnesota Vikings training camp happened to be the final one that practices would be closed to the public. Those practices were cut short, however, with lightning brewing near Eagan, where the Vikings’ practice facilities are located.
That gave us one last chance to see what the Vikings felt was necessary to tune up right before fans arrived.
Latest Practice Report From Minnesota Vikings Training Camp
Minnesota Vikings Injury News
We haven’t had any updates on the injury situation for any of the Vikings that were held out on Day 2 of practices, and no new players were absent.
- G Chris Reed (PUP)
- EDGE Andre Carter II (NFI)
- RT Brian O’Neill
- EDGE Danielle Hunter
- WR Jalen Nailor
There has not yet been an update on why Nailor missed the last two practices after showing out on the first day of camp. Brian O’Neill’s lack of participation still has not been communicated as a cause for alarm, and he had been rehabbing off to the side for most practices.
Both Chris Reed and Andre Carter II are eligible to come off of their respective reserve lists at any time and immediately participate in practices should the Vikings determine that they are healthy. Neither is expected to have a long timeline.
There are no updates to the Danielle Hunter hold-in situation, which is why he has been absent from practices.
Rain Delay
The second half of practice was held indoors after lightning was spotted, meaning that everything occurred at quarter-speed instead of the half-speed and faster we tend to see during outdoor practice sessions. That meant that there weren’t many team drills to work off of, and the Vikings functionally performed another install after doing walkthroughs in the morning.
Minnesota Vikings Training Camp Highlights
What little we saw was a pretty exciting day for the offense, with some big wins in 7-on-7, including Jefferson beating Byron Murphy for a touchdown by high-pointing the ball.
Justin Jefferson remains ridiculous. He just elevated and high-pointed a ball over good coverage from Byron Murphy Jr. for a TD grab in red zone 7-on-7.

Kirk Cousins threw the ball well in the available drills, with a highlight throw to Johnny Mundt for a touchdown that required precision accuracy from Cousins and remarkable body control from Mundt.
The defense was able to get their digs in, too, with each of the starting cornerbacks logging a pass deflection in red-zone drills, according to Sports Illustrated’s Will Ragatz. The second-team offense earned their reps as well, with Nick Mullens touchdowns to Nick Muse, Jalen Reagor, and XFL’s leading big-play receiver last year, Lucky Jackson.
Though the most exciting thing that occurred might have been that Hall of Famer Cris Carter appeared to help the receivers, particularly Jordan Addison and Jefferson, work on their route-running and sideline drills.
