With a loaded cast of characters and high-octane offenses, this is the game you load up your Thursday DFS lineup with. Both quarterbacks are in play — if you can find a way to afford them.
Cam Rising leads the Utah passing attack that ranks 31st in the country, while Cam Ward’s Washington State passing unit ranks 38th in touchdowns. It’s a star-studded cast of quarterbacks as two of the Pac-12’s top signal-callers are set to go throw for throw.
Alongside Rising and Ward, finding value and potential exploitations are next in line. The Washington State run game is practically nonexistent, so stay away there. On the other hand, the Utah rushing attack led by Tavion Thomas is typically a sound choice.

Still, take precautions. With Daiyan Henley patrolling the middle for Washington State, they’ve allowed just two backs to go over 100 yards this season. Those two performances have been in their last two games (USC’s Travis Dye, Oregon State’s Damien Martinez), as the season has apparently taken its toll on the Washington State defensive front seven.
Thomas should have ample rushing lanes to run through, and he’s a safe pick, as usual. Fellow Ute teammates Devaughn Vele and Dalton Kincaid are also enticing options. If you can afford Kincaid, fresh off a 16-catch performance two weeks ago, grab him. And if not, securing Vele is the next-best option.
Prediction for Utah vs. Washington State
No matter what USC threw at Utah on defense, the Utes kept coming back and found a way to win. Rising proved his skills with both his arm and legs while his tight end was unstoppable.
In fact, targeting Kincaid, Rising was a perfect 16-for-16 for 241 yards and a score. Kincaid found his way open on his own, and Rising threw him open on other targets.
As good as Henley is for the Cougars, guarding Kincaid is a tall task. No one’s been able to do it all season long, and no one should be able to limit his impact going forward. Not bad for the second tight end on the Utes’ depth chart.
With the distinct advantage going toward Utah’s passing attack, their passing defense is also sound, led by Clark Phillips III. The elder statesman on a young secondary, Phillips is firmly on the shortlist for the Jim Thorpe Award this season as the nation’s best defensive back. He leads the country in interceptions and has returned two for touchdowns. Phillips should be able to grab at least one interception from Ward, who has been shaky with his ball security this year.
They haven’t all gone his way, but Ward’s unsustainable play isn’t a safe way to live in the stacked Pac-12 this season. Phillips and Cole Bishop are primed for big impacts against the Washington State offense that is too one-sided to strike too much fear into the Utes.
Phillips makes more than a few plays — the Utes rise to an easy victory off a bye week.
Prediction: Utah 33, Washington State 20
