With Week 1 coming to a close on Sunday, the first weekend of UFL action is officially in the books. Through four games so far this season, what do the attendance numbers look like after the newly formed league’s first weekend of action? We break down the available metrics.
UFL’s Week 1 Attendance Numbers
The first game of the inaugural UFL season was between the USFL champion Birmingham Stallions visiting the XFL champion Arlington Renegades. The two teams played in front of a Texas crowd that totaled 14,153 people in the stands and was the league’s most-attended game of the weekend.
Following the opening game, the Michigan Panthers hosted the St. Louis Battlehawks later that afternoon in front of a crowd that totaled 9,444 patrons.
St. Louis was known for having rowdy crowds last season, and when they hosted their first home game of 2024, the expectation was that the Battlehawks’ faithful would be heavily represented.
After the Saturday slate of action, Easter Sunday provided two more games for the weekend, starting with the San Antonio Brahmas hosting the D.C. Defenders. That game provided the second-highest total attendance for the weekend, with 13,164 fans in the stands.
The weekend’s action was rounded out by the Houston Roughnecks hosting the Memphis Showboats and did so in front of a crowd of 9,157.
All in, there were 45,918 people in attendance for all four games, with an average attendance for the weekend per game coming to 11,479. Although the numbers are not staggering, especially compared to NFL numbers, a growing league is expected to draw more interest as they continue on solid ground.
In addition to fan interest, the crop of talent to come out of the Spring leagues will surely grow as well, with names such as KaVontae Turpin and Brandon Aubrey both becoming All-Pros in their first NFL seasons. It provides proof of the evident talent being played in the league and what participation can lead to.
Who will be the next player to come from the UFL to explode onto the NFL scene remains to be seen. In the meantime, Week 1 is in the books with a long, exciting UFL season ahead of us to sit back and enjoy.
